Took a road trip this weekend and noticed a weird issue. Randomly, the D3 would seem to power off, the music would shut off for 3-4 seconds, and then come back. The navigation would be off for almost a minute and a screen would come up telling me not to remove the disc. When the map would come back, it'd be off by about 40 miles and take another minute to catch back up. The unit has worked pefectly for over a year. Any ideas? I have a 2006 Jetta 2.5

Who installed it? For $200 I would expect a clean install. Maybe not hooking up the VSS or reverse wire if it was a pain, but the basic audio connections should be solid and free of interference. I would get your money back.

I did. I had a few pictures I downloaded from here, and then a bunch I created. The ones I downloaded worked fine, but the ones I created didn't work.

I tried making some custom backgrounds. When I tried loading them, I got an error. I was able to load some backgrounds I downloaded from here. I created jpegs, progressive, at 500x240. What am I doing wrong?

Its the kit. The same thing has heppened to me. I have to order a different kit. Another note about the ipod videos. I tried putting them in a playlist, but they don't show up. How did you get it to work?

I got mine installed too, I love t. I noticed that mine is bending in the middle top too, did you figure that out?>

Cool. i read a post where a guy said not to use it. it'd be sweet if the dimmer that controls the brightness of my stock unit could adjust the brightness of the D3, but i am assuming that this is not the case. it looks like the only pain in the ass will be running a 12v accessory to the fuse box on the drivers side door and pulling out the dash for the VSS wire. I think I'll try to do a DIY since there isn't a good one for the MKV jettas.

In my jetta, the illumination wire that is directly behind the dash is connected to a rheostat. Is that ok to use? or do I need to run a wire to the switch?

When you installed, did you hook the VSS and Illumination wire, and reverse? if you did, where are they? VSS I think is behind the console, but there seems to be discussion on which is the appropriate illumination wire.

I planned on it. I have the whole install planned, I just get anyone to tell me where the VSS wire is on my jetta, or what it looks like.

I just got an email saying my D3 shipped! Hope it gets here soon so I can install this weekend.

I'm going to be doing the same install in my GTI very shortly and would be much appreciated if you could explain how to use the stock antenna. Thanks in advance. When I ordered my unit from crutchfield, they sent me an adaptor. This can-bus adapter seems to do everything else.

He isnt joking. Several folks on this forum have done it..do a search. You'lll see pics as well. Best way to "mount" the fake front, is to glue a very thin, very short "L" bracket to the backside of the fake faceplate. This "L" will ever so slightly go into the CD slot, and hold the fake faceplate in place when you park. OHHH Now THERE is a great idea. Where? i can't find any pics

doesn't the D3 ask for a code when it is disconnected from the battery?

Its disappointing that theres no way to secure the unit to the care. Sorta like one of those computer security cables. Plug one end into the unit and attach it to the car. But then again these thieves will steal anything, even the shitty value edition radio. They don't know the difference. Once that window is broken, they're going to take something.

Seems like some of this stuff could be fixed ina firmware update, like album art, maybe even visualizations, but that could be distracting to the driver, so that prbably wouldn't happen.

I got my avic coming from crutchfield in may, and I got the new metra DD from ebay. I believe crutchfield is sending my everything I need. the only thing I am unsure of, and would like to know beforehand is A. where can I get the VSS wire? B. and where can I get the illumination wire My stereo is the value one, not the large screen, but rather the small single line of text one. Can anyone think of any pitfalls to avoid?

I was trying to figure out how to fabricate a rolling cover, but I am not sure. My thought was that if it didn't say pioneer, it'd look OEM and less attractive to a thief, since they get much less money for those.

Anybody tried stripping off the pioneer logo or the formats it plays? In an effort to make the unit look more OEM, I think this would help. Also could help deter thieves.

I hope you guys simply arent resizing existing pictures to 500x240. If the existing aspect ratio is not that, it will look like crap.
