1. Just as an example. On Thursday morning I left Laurel heading to North Carolina. Traffic at the mixing bowl (springlfield) was moving at approx 20mph from Springfield down to just north of Potomac Mills Mall exit. The problem apparently was due to a fender bender near Potomac Mills that occurred about an hour before I made it down..to the fender bender area. NavTraffic reported "there are no traffic incidents on your route". WTF. Came back from NC to Laurel yesterday. Traffic on I95 north was literally stop and go almost from Fredericksburg to Springfield. The XM traffic channel reported
2. ive had it for over a year. My commute is from Laurel to Bethesda. In short, it's not been worth it. Traffic info is often late, and often innacurate.
3. I swear I searched. I'll do better next time. sorry! Thanks for the info.
4. About to make the switch, and was wondering if the wiring harness is the same? If so, it would almost be a plug and play swap. Thanks.

6. Very odd. For the past year, this D3 has been almost flawless. Then two days ago, the area of the DC Beltway vicinity between I-95 College Park and approximately 8 miles west (Wisconsin Ave) is literally all grey. Like a huge block of grey. Outside of that, everything is fine..but the entire end of the screen, then middle of the screen, then other end of the screen (this occurs as I drive from one side to the other) go grey. Then the grey disappears when I leave that area. This suddenly occurred about 2 days ago, and remains this way today. Have not tried a reset yet..too lazy to have to rel
7. true but could help a future poster with the same issue who searches
8. Wont work without the Jetware software. Known issue.
9. For the movie issue, you need to go into the "info" tab for each movie, and ensure the box for "skip during shuffle" is NOT checked. Also, you will need to put the movies into a playlist. This will allow you to use the Ipod to start a movie, then use the AVIC to skip through the movie or to the next movie when you choose.
10. I have yet to hear an announcement. So not sure how it actually works. Example: Yesterday the map showed an incident (car overturned icon) on the Capital Beltway in Maryland. It also showed a yellow dot for traffic flow info at the same location. This location was right between my home and office. I went to the Navi menu, punched in my destionation to be my home address. Selected the first route it suggested. I checked, and the route included the portion of the Beltway that had the car overturned icon and traffic flow info. No announcement ever came. I arrived home, and the

VSS

Your manual will tell you exactly what it's purpose is for. But in general, VSS allows the unit to utilize your cars speed as an additional variable to use to calculate position. VSS plus the built in GPS ensures more positioning accuracy..meaning more accuracy of your Navigation unit. If I recall from reading the manual, VSS is especially helpful in aiding positional accuracy when driving up/down elevations, since GPS can't really calculate elevations all that well. So VSS is helpful in getting more accuracy out of your unit.
12.
It words off of the XM antenna. In the DC metro area, Im finding it useless for the week I've had it. Doesnt cover the Baltimore/Wash Parkway at all, nor does it cover the top part (Maryland side) of the Beltway. Nor does it address any of the major alternate routes I use (Rt 29 in Silver Spring, Rt 1 in College Park, etc)
Finally getting some coverage flow now on the Maryland side of the Beltway between I270 and the BW Parkway
13. I'm also curious why they don't provide traffic flow there. Maryland DOT has the info (visible here and here), although I don't know how that's populated. Is there any specific email address we can send questions to? Besides PMing a certain XM employee? As of today, I finally noticed some traffic flow dots and traffic incident info on I-495 on the Capital Beltway on the Maryland side. Specifically between the exits for I-270 and the B/W Parkway. hooray.
14. LOL. They dont actually show up labeled as "AREA1, AREA2" etc.. they are just there. In other words..look at the pic in the manual. where is says "AREA 1"? Thats where area 1 actually is on the Avic...except it isnt labled on the avic. Its stealthy like that for security reasons. Touching that area WILL be the same as touching a button there labeled "AREA" whatever..
15. I was simply stating my experience in tunnels with no VSS hooked up. I DEFINITELY get tracking through the tunnels. If I could get a DEFINITE answer on which wire is the VSS wire for a 2002 Lincoln LS V8, I'd hook it up. But no one can tell me, and Crutchfield recommends using some sort of kit. I'll pass for now.
16. Am I the only one with a caller id issue? Example: I place a call to 555-1212. Complete the call. Afterwards, I then use my bluetooth connected cell phone to dial a contact in my phone book. That contacts number is 555-1313. The call goes through the D3 just fine, BUT the display on the D3 shows the number as 555-1212...the prior call. WTF
17. as I posted before, I do NOT have the VSS wire hooked up, and have driven through several tunnels (Norfolk/Hampton roads area) several times..and the arrow/map keeps moving just fine.
18. many cars have odd illim wire issues. Easy fix is to tap into the + wire for your ashtray illumination wire.
19. same issue. I just grab my treo from the console cupholder and enter it via the phone. I know.
20. had the same issue, but for the life of me, cant recall what specifically fixed it. All I can say is take your time, check your procedures carefully, make sure the bluetooth transmitter on your phone is on and the code is matching the code you inputted on the D3, and keep trying.
21. Brents. First off, be easy over there, and get back safe so you can enjoy the D3. Unfortunatley, the answer to your questions are both no.
22. and this is what finally pushed me over the Ipod edge. I held on to the Creative Zen as long as I could. But when it came to the car audio aspect, nothing beats sticking a loaded IPOD in the glovebox, locking it up, and having control over it via the headunit. No running dead on battery power, no cord sticking out of the cig lighter for charging, no having to hit "aux" on the head unit, and control things from a separate device..
23. I hated Ipods before this unit as well. Had a creative labs Zen. Long story short, I now have a video ipod. Works perfectly with the D3. Youre trapped.
