  1. This is not a new occurrence. Apple has done this in the past with things like multifinger gestures on the iPad coming out in the iOS5 beta but it not being a feature till iOS 6. It just means that a feature that isn't ready slipped through the cracks but is coming in the future. It just isn't ready yet. Regardless NEX radios lack the necessary hardware and will not have the feature.
  2. Being able to handle text messages and phone calls far better than the NEX could do on its own. While apple maps isnt as good as Waze, the interface and responsiveness is far better than waze was in the car. I quite like having control of different music apps from the radio. Phone calls sound nicer lately although they didn't at first. Having buttons in siri especially when handling messages is a god send. I don't like the album art or lack thereof but that's pioneer's fault for putting in a uselessly bad display. I wish apple maps had live rerouting based on traffic. Besides that I reall
  3. from what I've seen the NEX radios don't have the hardware (wifi) to be able to do wireless carplay.
  4. I went to my local car audio shop the other day and asked the guy which company makes the best displays. He told me none of them because they all buy the same crap and it all sucks. Speaks volumes to the car audio industry.
  5. Just to be clear with everyone because I've seen this a few times said in different threads. Carplay does NOT use bluetooth. At all. Everything comes from the USB port. Wireless carplay may use the bluetooth but signs for that point more to wifi in the car which is why the NEX units cannot do it. The Alpine might, but it's unlikely.
  6. Album art is back in iOS 8.3
  7. Honestly as long as the bluetooth works everywhere in my car I don't care. Probably why I never noticed the drop in range.
  8. Bluetooth works...I took out my appradio cables so I don't know if it connects better or is more responsive. Can't help you there. The sound quality is great, but I thought it was great before. No glitches, but I never saw any glitches before.... No clue.
  9. I think more the second one. What Pioneer is doing isn't new for them. The Appradio 2 and 3 were the exact same unit if you got the model that didn't have the DVD player. However Pioneer never gave the Appradio 2 the 3's software or unlocked the Appradio 2's bluetooth streaming which its parrot bluetooth chip could handle. Edit: and for shits and giggles I checked the 4100 manual. Still bluetooth 3.0 but that was a theory that makes sense. Seriously though it's the same radio and the only reason we don't have the update is because Pioneer doesn't care about their customers. They coul
  10. If you're still on 1.08 try doing a full system restore and pressing the reset button on the front of the radio. Other people that have had issues in putting 1.08 in their head unit have had luck with this.
  11. Well that is just the alpine. It has a better display than the NEX units as far as color quality.
  12. I am very hopeful but cautious when it comes to the Parrot. It's nice to finally see a headunits with a resolution that isn't from the 90s. However based on reviews previous parrot head units have had subpar audio quality and a lot of glitches. They are however still updating the Parrot asteroid head units with new features and bug fixes so at least they support their hardware for longer than 10 minutes unlike Pioneer. Honestly I have an iPhone and carplay works fine on my 4000. Until someone makes makes a headunits with a proven display that doesn't suck and has the audio quality de
  13. well at the very least we are able to upgrade our bluetooth firmware safely with this. I wouldn't suggest 1.03 unless someone with actual programming skills has a go at fine tuning it first.
  14. That sucks. Go back to the 1.08 firmware and see if your nag comes back.
  15. So I tried doing a restore install to 1.03. Did nothing differently. The bluetooth audio is still stuck at off no matter what I try. I have also noticed that when I first turn on carplay my illumination turns off until I try to play music at which point I hear a beep and no sound comes. I'm going to revert back to 1.08. Unless someone with actual programming experience looks over the difference between the two open source releases of the firmwares and figures out what exactly is wrong I think this is a dead end.
  16. If you upgrade the bluetooth ahead of time and change the file names on all the files from 150 to 140 it will give you many new features, but your bluetooth will be for nothing and your carplay won't play music.
  17. Radio is working fine with the upgraded bluetooth firmware. All functions are great in 1.08. Haven't tried to restore to 1.03 instead of upgrade yet. Haven't had time.
  18. Here's the steps I've done so far. I reverted back to 1.08, then using the 1.03 firmware while in 1.08 I updated the bluetooth. So while the radio is in the 1.08 firmware it successfully updated to 3.41.10. I tested bluetooth audio and calling, and everything is working great. I then updated to 1.03 again. The 3.41.10 bluetooth firmware stayed put. The radio actually ran much more reliably. The first time carplay was utterly unusable and glitchy and half the buttons on the radio weren't cooperating. This time though the radio responded fine and carplay moved fine. The only problem was the
  19. So if you have the 1.03 upgrade that has been converted to load on a 4000, go to the bluetooth update page BEFORE updating to 1.03 and the radio will update from 3.21.10 to 3.41.10.
  20. He hasn't posted since he posted for that forum topic. I doubt he is checking this site.
  21. Ok to actually answer your question. If you want to turn off carplay, go to settings on your radio, input/output settings, smartphone setup and then click carplay off.
  22. Idk the Alpine ILX is a perfect carplay radio and its display is miles better than even the 8000 in color accuracy. Different reviewers have noted it has better audio quality as well. It's main interface sucks even more than pioneer because just like you say Pioneer is the best in the business for interface (which is sad because their interface is not that great) but all I want is a carplay radio. Seriously with the Alpine you can truly see the album art. I can do some tricks to force the album art to show on my 4000 but it doesn't look good and then the maps and the other apps look wrong.
  23. I have an idea, but it's insanity. The NEX has a recovery system for if the radio has a catastrophic failure during the update like if lets say you turned off the car during. My guess is that it would be a full wipe of the system to return to stock, vs an update only changes the files that need changing. If I were to do this hacked update and then force restart the radio while it's going it might force it to do a full fresh install which could install the missing parts of the firmware that is causing it to act up. I'm not crazy enough to do this, but I'm tempted.
  24. what he is saying is that the nex x100 1.03 firmware files do not upgrade the bluetooth because the stock bluetooth on the headunits is already 31.41.30. So when we update our headunits we have the wrong bluetooth firmware and the unit stops working correctly.
