  1. In regards to the extension, on my carI need to get an extension anyway since the leads off the factory gps ant end by the tailights.. I need to get 5ft forward. Vw/Audi sell the cable with ends for about 20 bucks in various lengths. If you only have to splice one end and locate connectors all the better. As for the actual pin portion of the connector... I can show you about 10 different ends that all come in identical outer plastic housings from vw/audi.. so no they are not all the same. the smb style one happens to be the closest but all we had at work was the 90degree ones so they d
  2. I don't remeber if I tried a straight smb connector, we only had 90 degree ones at the dealer. That cable there is insteresting.. I think I have a 90 in my pile of possible wires in my truck, as soon as I get my A3 back I'll check the 90 degree one and see if it would work if it was not a 90.. If so then that straight cable may work what kind of car do you have?
  3. If you find anything out let me know, I've kind of slacked off as I only have 2 weeks before I move and my A3 is being held hostage at the dealer I used to work for till I pay for the ram I bought, so I have not even thought about my d3. once I get to GA I'll be looking again to figure out how to make the connectors work.
  4. I would probably just put it on the dash like others said. but if that is stock tint in the back like it appears to be then its probabl not metallic on that application since most gm metallic tint apears very silver/mirror like.
  5. VW/audi use fakra connectors for their sat which is what the standard seems to be so the will work. pioneer uses a gt5 hirose connector for their gps though not a fakra like vw/audi so its not compatible without an adapter or modifcation. I have yet to find an adpater even searching many european applications, so modifcation will probably be required for gps, which I have not had chance to try yet on my a3
  6. That will work fine, ist just needs someting telling it the lights are on and can detect it. You can also just use any gray/blue wire by any of the switches near the radio so you don't have to run the whole way over.
  7. I didn't hook up the illumination on mine since I usually have my lights on and didn't want it in night mode all the time. But any gray/blue wire on any of the switches near the radio will work.
  8. A4 and A3 electronics are completely different.. An A3 while its a full can/gateway car the A4 is not. Oddly the A3 which is the same platform as the new Mk5 vws and has basicaly the same wiring harness and most of the control modules has apparnetly a VSS wire at the cluster, which is even stranger since the car does not even have a VSS the speed is calculated based on rpms and wheel speed from the ABS. I did not hook mine up so I have not confirmed it but several people on the VW forums have said it is there on their gti/jettas. I meant to check it on my A3 when I replaced the cluste
  9. Yeah if you check the back of most DVDs they all list different aspect ratios.
  10. I will stop by our distributor on the way back to the shop (I run my performance shop out of a stero shop and use their distributor) and see what they have. I need to pick up a bluetooth setup if they have one and some other stuff .They are also an electronic repair shop so they may know or possibly have a damaged GPS unit I can steal the connector from thanks for the idea.
  11. thanks I'll let the fiancee know you liked it I didnt want to cut and splice for all the reasons listed.. I'm also an Audi/Vw tech so soldering is cause for instant banishment from the shop, although I am very good at it since I have soldered 1000plus proms to boards doing chip tuning. Unfortantely the actual pin end going into the pioneer unit is different then any of the available ends for fakra connectors that we have at the dealer. I have been trying to locate just the actual terminal with no plastic housing that pioneer uses so that I can put that on the end of one of the Audi wi
  12. Awesome will calling my distributor tomorow to see if they have one in stock.. thanks
  13. I've got an 06 audi A3 and a D3. I currently have the gps ant just sitting on the dash while I try to figure this out. All US A3s use the rear window for AM/FM and the roof mount ant is for gps and sat radio. the roof mount has all fakra connectors coming off it but they do not fit the d3 connection. I was till friday a tech at an Audi dealer and still have acess to the parts department. We have cablesin various lengths and many adaters but none adapt the d3 connector to the fakra. I have done some research and what I can come up with is that pioneer uses a hiroso conectoer which is appa
