  1. With Pioneer FINALLY creating a website to support 3rd party development. We need to start asking android devs to making their apps compatible. http://www.appradioworld.com/2012/06/pioneer-discusses-future-of-appradio-at.html#more http://www.appradiodev.com/
  2. That's good to know. I was planning on upgrading in the next day or so...
  3. Every app can use the deck. All video and audio goes through the deck. You just don't have touch control in non approved apps. I've never seen an ad in waze myself.
  4. Nope, I think the steering wheel controls are available but I don't have it. There is no other way to input music other then by mhl / hdmi or iphod / iphone. The usb it currently not able to do usb stick. There is no other input. I hope they do decide to change that as I don't see any reason why the deck shouldn't be able to see and use a usb stick but I won't hold my breath.
  5. I tested waze on the way home from work today. I was getting full voice navigation with it also telling me the road names. However when I tried to use voice input to tell waze where I wanted to go it defaults to google and it's the phone listening for the commands, not the deck mic. So it wasn't able to understand what I was saying. Granted a diesel truck isn't the best thing to be testing voice. Can't help you with the connecting issue. I don't have connection issues with 4.0.4. Not sure why anything would be different with 4.0.3
  6. Yes the head unit shows the album art and also shows it again as a dim wallpaper behind everything. Looks cool. Waze does seem to be aimed at 1 year olds for some reason.. It doe the job and hopefully competition will be forthcoming... From everything I have read you need to supply some sort of power to get the mhl to work, Every cable I looked at had a usb cable that you plugged in. Even if its possible that the mhl cable can be used without powering the phone you'd be draining so fast that it wouldn't be worth it. Your heading backwards already even with additional usb power...
  7. The head unit just gets fed the video and audio from the phone, the phone itself is playing the music. Next time I am in the truck I'll try to use waze for navigation and see how it all works. I haven't used it much yet. The MHL is charging the phone at .5amp. The problem is depending on what your doing your breaking even or slowly falling behind. If it could charge at 1amp we'd come out ahead... As far as I know android is able to supplement gps with other data.
  8. The best way I have figured out is to use tasker. Non root: Set up a tasker task that switches "input method select", you still have to manually press which of the keyboards you want, the tasker exit task does it again and you press the other keyboard. Android doesn't allow 3rd party apps to make those type of changes without the user being involved. Rooted: Same thing, with tasker but this time use a tasker plugin called Secure Settings that makes the keyboard change for you automatically. Again when you exit use secure settings to put the normal keyboard back on. Works awesome!
  9. The os sees the usb cable and defaults for .5amp charging. I have been looking on and off whether you can trick it into accepting 1amp but haven't found anything yet.
  10. Far as I know everything works like you'd expect it to running waze. How it compares to other navigation programs I have no idea. I'd still like to see Google navigation integrated myself, until then waze is perfectly acceptable.
  11. LOL yah he'll realize soon enough when no one bids. I contacted him just for the heck of it. It is the perfect cable though, light on the phone end. I used a short usb cable to run from the apple /usb connector in the glove box back to the deck and plugged in to the mhl cable. There's a lot of cables running back and forth but they are hidden in the dash so who cares... The only time I need the usb cable is to do a firmware update. If I recall there are similar mhl cables with longer usb connections on ebay, but I was in a hurry to get one, and could get the one I bought in a couple days
  12. I was lucky enough that my cable from Ebay worked just fine, biggest thing I was worried about was whether it was going to fit and luckily it did. Just remember that you have to power the cable if you don't already know. I have the decks usb plugged in to the mhl cable to give it power. http://www.ebay.ca/i...0#ht_3342wt_939 That was the cable I purchased. 17bucks shipped (tho I think he screwed up the price when he re-listed it, lol).
  13. The deck will display anything your phone will, but only control approved apps. So you need to use the phone tough screen to control non approved stuff. Waze app is free full navigation. so the choice is there. I think the real issue is google navigation is a different app to google maps, and navigation doesn't have the required mod to the code. It does seem odd that maps does. You'd almost think that Pioneer just allowed it rather then force Google to modify maps to work with Pioneer. The usb cable doesn't allow mp3 players or usb sticks with music on them, just firmware updates. I f
  14. Tried it, was an ipod mini 4gb. The deck just saying can't connect. Way too old I guess....
  15. Very interesting! Which version of Ipod do you have? I'd be interested in picking up something used possibly if I could. I do have some older 4 or 8 gb Ipods I could try but they are beyond old. Should dig them out and see if they will stilll hold a charge. I tried plugging in my iphone 3g but I got an error when I tried to open it. Used to that thing not being compatible with anything.
  16. lol np Its always something but that's what drew me to android in the first place. Choice and playing.
  17. I can email it to you. I just made a backup of it off my phone. PM me your email address.
  18. You might be in trouble... The pioneer adaptor would be for a normal mhl devices. What you would need is an official samsung g3 mhl cable, at least until someone else out there was to make one.
  19. I got it wrong, some apps are closing and not others... (especially waze) I found a post about a way to make sure apps close. I am going to try it... http://tasker.wikidot.com/tasker-as-an-automated-task-killer
  20. I am currently powering my mhl adaptor (15 bucks on ebay) with the pioneer deck usb itself. Its the cleanest set-up I could do, but I am def. slowly losing ground when I am running too much. When I am just playing music I seem to hold my ground, possibly charge a bit... The only way to test this I guess is just let the system run for hours in a couple test conditions and see what happens. Part of the problem from what I have been reading is the phone as well as the mhl. The phone runs in one of two states. When it sees usb power it charges at .5amp. When it sees AC power it will allow 1 am
  21. How does playing music compare between the android and ipod? I haven't tried my apple stuff (iphone 3g and a couple old ipods as I figured they wouldn't work) and I am loathe to give apple any more money to buy a new ipod just to play music when the android phone works fine...
  22. A few people have asked the Torque dev about it and he seems game but doesn't know how to go about it. I even emailed Pioneer about how to go about it and never heard a reply back. No idea if I was emailing the right people but some sort of response would have been nice. Right now I think Pioneer is going to the app devs themselves. Gnex Stock 4.0.4 rooted and unlocked. (I wasn't planning on rooting but there were just too many things that required root to work with tasker, so what the heck)
  23. Profile: Appradio - Bluetooth connected, address (deck connection) or I use USB connected, . I play with both just to see which is more reliable until I can get some NFC tags... Task: Docked: 1 Bluetooth = on 2 Stay on - Mode (with AC or usb power) 3 Auto Brightness - set off 4 Display brightness - level 0 5 Wifi= off 6 Keyguard - set off 7 Rotation Locker - Configuration state landscape 8 Secure Settings = Configuration (Input method/CarKeyboard) 9 Flash - text (Appradio on) Exit task: Undocked 1 Kill App = App Appradio (use Root) 2 Kill App = App Carmediaplayer
  24. I am close to having that with tasker. I am using the tasker command "Keyguard = off", then I run "Stay on = with USB or AC".and it works fine in keeping the phone from going to sleep or making me unlock the phone. I feel that my set up is 90% there, but I am just trying to wiggle that last 10% out of the set up. I am hoping that I'll be able to use torque soon with my ap2. Fantastic obd2 app and at 5 bucks its way cheaper then dash command.
  25. If you post that over on the XDA thread you might get some interest. Thanks for offering up such a prize!
