  1. ^^^ He's right. Switching back from AppRadio Mode to CarPlay does this. All you need to do is restart your phone.
  2. IIRC the mic plugs into either the A/V input or the Aux input in the rear of the head unit (double check the manual). If you were planning to extend those inputs to your dash or center console then you're good to go (just plug the mic in when you need it). If you weren't planning to use those inputs then have your installer run the appropriate cable to a place the input into more accessible location where you wouldn't have to remove the head unit.
  3. In my experience I think it improves the sound. It brought more clarity to the midrange and helped to bring it out front more. It provided a more studio monitor-like sound quality that is balanced across the frequency spectrum. Some people may perceive it as "flat" sounding. I consider it to sound natural. It works for everything from talk radio to rock, hip hop, and electronic and it doesn't fatigue my ears like heavy treble/bass can do. If you're a fan of high treble & bass, with subdued midrange, then Auto EQ may not be for you.
  4. Alright, lets start at the beginning - those paper thingies that came in the box with your new radio. Make sure this is right: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/StaticFiles/Manuals/Car/AVIC-5000NEX_InstallationManual011014.pdf This will help show you how to use it: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/StaticFiles/Manuals/Car/AVIC-5000NEX_OperationManual030714.pdf
  5. Like you said, it would take an hour to program everything back to how it was after a factory reset. Seems like a reasonable thing to try before you send the whole unit back (which you'll have to reprogram anyway). That would take much longer than an hour.
  6. Can you provide some details on what other equipment you have. In other words, please provide details of your signal chain. Is there an amplifier for those subs? How is the gain setting? What crossover setting are you using (either on the head unit or the amplifier)?
  7. My first thought would be that the fan is possibly being obstructed. Sometimes the wiring can get pretty tight behind an aftermarket installation. I can see that potentially being an issue. Maybe the fan is sucking in hot air from the HVAC system? I really don't know - just throwing out some ideas.
  8. I'll stick by my suggestion above and would advise you to determine if your VSS wire is connected. It has nothing really to do with the odometer reading (or speedometer, if that's what you meant). It will supplement the GPS system by factoring in the vehicle speed, helping to determine your car's exact position. For example, if you drive into a tunnel and lose GPS signal, then the navigation system can use the vehicle's speed data to track your position on the map until it regains a GPS signal. Sorry if that doesn't work, but your issue seems to point squarely at the VSS wire needing to be
  9. If you don't have the VSS wire connected you may experience what you describe. The VSS (vehicle speed sensor) will factor vehicle speed in conjunction with GPS location to get a more accurate read on where your vehicle actually is. This is also helpful in areas with tall buildings, tunnels, etc.
  10. It seemed logical that the subwoofer would be affected if you EQ a frequency that the subwoofer plays. I guess the NEX series is designed so that the sub output is completely independent of the EQ? Very interesting...
  11. To answer your question, yes you must disable CarPlay if you want to use Waze. Waze is operable inAppRadio mode only. You have to choose CarPlay or AppRadio mode. They cannot be run simultaneously. They also have different physical connections. It's all in the manual. It's an excellent resource.
  12. The subwoofer will be affected as long as the frequencies you're EQing are within the range the subwoofer is allowed to play. For example, if you have low pass crossed over at 80Hz and you EQ the 63Hz band, the sub will be affected. If you adjusted the 8kHz band, the subwoofer won't be afffectd. Why would it? That wouldn't make sense.
  13. Like this? Owner's manual, page 224. https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/StaticFiles/Manuals/Car/AVIC-8100NEX_OperationManual021915.pdf
  14. The AppRadio app is what allows your head unit to have a main screen where all AppRadio compatible apps will appear. The reason you only see Pandora is because it runs independently of AppRadio Mode. Your compatible apps should work without the actual AppRadio app, but you'd have to use the phone to select them. With Waze, you have to enable an external display (or something like that) from Waze's settings. I used AppRadio mode for a long time. It was always finicky. I have abandoned it for CarPlay.
  15. Being stopped and being in motion in a vehicle have totally different noise floors. That's why...
  16. My experience with AppRadio mode was with an AppRadio 2 and iPhone 4S and iPhone 6, so it may be a little outdated. But what I came to realize was that the whole system would work well for small periods of time. There are too many variables such as Pioneer firmware, phone OS, and each individual app that made it a constant moving target. When something gets an update, it can easily send everything out of whack. I was always able to use Waze and listen to anything I wanted though. I had Inrix too but it wasn't much use. I think it got really buggy before I stopped using it. I experimented
  17. I'm sure those links were intended to be helpful. The first one is a great resource to see a "professional" review of basically any head unit that is currently on sale. I didn't look for the Kenwood model, but I would bet they have reviewed it since CarPlay is hot right now. The second link is self-explanatory. I like this lady's blog. She owns a stereo shop and is a great resource. I've asked her a few questions before and PayPaled her a few bucks for the help (she is/was fundraising to attend CES). http://www.carstereochick.com/2015/01/12/kenwood-carplay-android-auto-ddx99
  18. No, that's how AppRadio works. Turn-by-turn Google Maps was never AppRadio compatible as far as I know (I stopped using AppRadio in faovr of CarPlay). What you do get is some stripped down version of Google Maps, as you have experienced. If you want NAV, I'd suggest Waze.
  19. Does the android connectivity kit include something that will give the phone enough current to actually provide a charge while the phone is in use? I'm thinking of a separate power supply that gets its power from the head unit's harness or car battery. If the A.C.K. does include something like that, you have your answer.
  20. I hope y'all get what you want. But don't you want pinching to zoom out and expanding to zoom in, rather than vice-versa?
  21. Are the camera settings set correctly for your situation? See pages 181-182 of the owner's manual.
  22. That's strange... I haven't found the sound of CarPlay to be of less quality than over bluetooth. Sometimes Bluetooth can be a little louder, but volume and sound quality are different things. If you want to try AppRadio mode, it uses both Bluetooth and HDMI simultaneously. You'll need an Apple digital-HDMI adapter too. In case you don't have your original documentation, these should help a lot.
