1. I would suggest grounding the Z1. Most issues with installs can be traced to poor grounding practices.
2. From what I understand rapayn1, some of your phone functionality will be disabled. You cannot access the phone book numbers on the Z1 while in motion. You could however use your phone to dial numbers and access stored numbers in your phone. Basically the Z1 will act like a wireless bluetooth headphone (speaker and mic...that's it)...if this is the case just stick with a wireless bluetooth headset unless you like the speaker phone-llike behavior of the Z1's phone.
3.
btw a friend at a local dealer today told me that the book price (cost) on the z1 unit for them is like 1575.00 not sure whether i believe it or not but he had no reason to lie to me i had already told him i was buying elsewhere.
That quoted price could be correct. The difference you will see is in sellers that deal with a high volume of sales (think WalMart). These sellers keep the profit margin low hoping for a high sales volume. Also, many of these sellers leave much to be desired in the customer support department. I'm sure you have heard of the sa
4. Are you using the same password security codes?
5. Good post nomi...I'm sure a lot of people will jump on this. Looks like Pioneer charges $5 for shipping/handling per unit and tax.
6. Welcome, you may try pairing the two using the phone instead of the Z1. Good luck.
7. Well you are in the Z1 section of this forum so you will tend to get a biased opinion to your question. I say stick with the Z1...if you can afford it. In regards to installing it yourself...go for it. It is a very simple install especially if you've installed a car stereo before. One difference you might find somewhat difficult is identifying the VSS wire to tap. If you read enough of the threads in this forum you will find this topic discussed in great detail. Good Luck. Go to the D2 section and see what they recommend. :P
8. If Pioneer truely closed this hole as you describe then there will be a lot of disappointed future Z1 users out there. I guess the good news is the version number is still the same so this possible closure is more hardware than firmware. I was concerned future firmware upgrades would eliminate DucatiBoy's circuit. Maybe we can start listing build dates of Z1's...I have a May build date and DB's circuit works great. Anyone else?
9. I think we are all waiting for an update to the map database. I too live in the burbs and there are many new streets out here...it would be neat to have the 3D graphics in the burbs and not just the major metropolitan cities. Not a big deal just a wish.
10. I too am confused like 03Aviator. But, I can tell you now that the Speed Sensor wire should be connected. You can utilze the Nav without the speed sensor connected but you will not have 3D capabilities. Locating the Speed Sensor in your car may require that you instill the services of an experienced installer. It sounds like from your description that you are a bit over your head with this install. I would agree with 03Aviator that these HUs are fairly easy to install if you know what you are doing. especially with all the available install kits. You can keep checking this forum for ot
11. Looks like your installers are dishing you some human waste/by-product. The Z1 does not have a photo sensor...I know some are wishing Pioneer can do something with the IR sensor but as of now...nothing. These installers crack me up. They come up with anything to get their customer's off their back. You would think with the internet information out there they would not come up with this crap. I highly recommend that you buy the DucatiBoy Circuit and this can be completed by yourself. Do not go back to those jokers who installed your system; based on what they told you, they obviously do n
12. It will only give you the next street if you created a destination. General map view will not give you the next street. Not sure what the advantage is for having the name of the next street unless you are lost but at that point I would think you would have established a destination.
13. First thing, welcome to the forum. I feel your pain brother. It took me 3 attempts to find the correct wire. I found the the Z1 requires a pulse that is constant, what I mean to say is the pulses need to increase as the speed increases (makes sense). In my car, the true VSS produces a pulse at certain speeds but does not maintain a pulse. Basically what that means is as I am travelling, when I hit a certain speed a pulse is produced then, it disappears. The Z1 would detect the pulse but that would be it. If you are reading Zero on the speed pulse that means the car is stationary. So in
14. Hit the "Menu" button then "Settings". I believe there is a option to pick software information...or you can read your manual and it should guide you on the sequence of buttons to push to get the version number. Hope this helps.
15. Can you tell us what version you have? If you recently installed it, I would venture to guess that you have the most current version then, like the rest of us, you need to wait until Pioneer comes out with an update.
16. In regards to your "flashing" issue, I would highly suggest getting DucatiBoy's circuit...it's an easy install and most importantly, IT WORKS!!!. My next question, did you do the install? If so, did you connect the illumination wire? If you connected it correctly, you may need to adjust the setting for night function. Read your manual and there is a place where you can change the night function to work automatically or remain in day mode all the time. Hope this helps.
17.
Were you not getting any "bars" at all on your 3D before?
Yes and no. When I reached a certain speed one pulse and one bar would pop up then disappear. Now I'm getting a lot of bars and a lot of pulses. The pulses I receive are about double the speed (e.g. if I am travelling 25 mph I will see 50 pulses). I am now getting the 3D Hybrid mode and waiting for more bars to show up. It works, it really works.
18. SUCCESS!...Okay, I got the 3D working. I ended up using a different wire (you would think the wire labeled VSS would work---not my car!). Now I can really enjoy the Z1. Thanks for everyone's input. I'm glad it was not a bad Z1; I would have hated being without it.
19. Thanks for the reply Steve. From your description I got the wrong wire. You mentioned that the Z1 may not be "compatible"...I wonder how often this occurs. I will try another wire (my third) that someone used (they have an Alpine) and it worked for him. If there are any other suggestions out there, please bring it on. TIA
20.
either it doesn't like your VSS wire, which you can watch on the MENU - SETTINGS - HARDWARE - CONNECTION STATUS screen (speed pulse) while you drive or there might be something wrong with the Z1.
Hello Steve, this is what I see in the connection status: it's pretty much at zero when I am driving but as I hit certain speeds, a #1 pops up then disappears. Should the numbers progressively increase as speed increases? Mine just goes from 0 to 1 depending on speed (for example, when I hit 35mph a #1 pops up then back to 0 then when I hit 50mph another
21. Okay...I'm finished talking with the folks at Pioneer Electronics. I've had 2 discussions with their customer service reps and I'm getting nowhere fast. Here's my problem: I've connected the Z1 to my VSS on my Ridgeline. I've reset my 3D Calibration and I still am not getting the 3D mode. I've driven over 115 miles. The Pioneer guy told me that there needs to be at least 5 satellites available (I have the max) and you need to be travelling at least 35mph. I've verified my pulse signal and I'm using the wire that has been suggested by members of this forum as well as others. Could there
22. Read Palacios' reply...he has suggestions for an amp. I'm not sure what your installer is talking about in regards to "harness" but if he intends on using the Z1 by itself, you WILL NOT have sub control. I have a Ridgeline and the stock HU has a subwoofer control...I'm guessing your Pilot has the same thing. I wonder if your installer is going to tap into the other speaker leads from the Z1 and connect it to the sub. My stock HU had a dedicated input for the sub so I'm guessing there is an internal amp that powers the sub...a very weak amp as was mentioned by Palacios. As a side note...if
23. Some of the issues in regards to VC is that the command "call John Jones" needs to be specified. What I mean is if you push the VC icon, and just say, "call John Jones", the Z1 does not know that you want to call John Jones, your friend or John Jones the restaurant. So there is a reason that it makes you do the phone book thing because you might be requesting a POI instead of a person in your phone book.
24.
Hello all, Just purchased a honda pilot exl. I am really interested in installing a avic Z1. I need some suggestions from u guys and also a few questions before installing it. 2) My Pilot has a factory sub woofer in it. Will the sub woofer work after installing the avic z1? do i need to install an AMP, to power the sub woofer or is it going to work fine just with the avic z1. 3) Will the factory steering wheel controls work? 5) how easy is it to load songs on to the hard disk drive? Is it possible to view the video from the ipod on the display. It would be r
25. I found mine at the Pioneer store for $20 (before tax and shipping). It's sold out right now but if you check periodically it does become available. Good luck.
