  1. From everything I read on this thread, it appears to be an installation problem. Connecting the speed sensor wire will not effect the bypass. Connecting the wire will give you more precise nav functionality. Uses vehicle speed and satellite positioning to improve nav.
  2. Well...the quick answer is NO . The good news is there exists a functional bypass method but it WILL REQUIRE removal of the unit so that you can access the correct grounding points. Get ready to do some work. I have a Z1 and I did the HDD upgrade so I know what you're up against. Good luck.
  3. Well, you have the correct map version. Does the bezel around the screen have Z3 on it? You can always update the CDDB when that update comes up. How large is your HDD? You can remove the HDD fairly easily to verify the size and brand of the HDD.

I'd agree...you'll save close to 50% if you buy one of Garrettomey's drives. He has received good feedback from users in this forum.
  5. This post probably belongs in the Classified section...it looks like you don't have enough posts to place it there. I agree with the above post, a bit high. You may want to include actual pictures in your listing. The ones pulled from the Pioneer site are good for reference but if I were considering this purchase, I would like to see pictures of the actual units.
  6. Yessir...you'll need the nd-bt1 to access the phone menu. I have a Z1 upgarded to t a Z3 and if I hold the Menu button the Phone menu comes up...but I also have the nd-bt1 installed.
  7. If the night time background does not come up with the lights turned on then most likely it is your illumination connection. It maybe a hardware issue.
  8. I agree that the drives are great. I installed mine and also changed the FC hack to the two-wire hack. Everything works great. I started with a Z1 and now it is a Z3. I refer all my Z* friends of this great resource. I would not hesitate buying from Garrett again. I like that I have more HD space for more music.
  9. Sure can...it should not be a problem. To be safe confirm what other equipment will be powered by the same line.

    Avic Z1

Bump...well said. This is not a place for fly-by's.
  11. Great work everyone. I tried the bypass on a friend's Z2...all is good. I currently have a Z1 and I'm anxiously waiting to see a solution for the Z1. It has been mentioned that have a Z2 image on the Z1 would allow the Z2 bypass to work. My question is, how hard is it to get a Z2 image on a Z1.
  12. I tried logging on and no go. Is it still up?
  13. Sorry for the late response Darth...are you same guy in the Passat World forum? (Beale AFB) The Z1 does not come with a sleeve that you can use on the Passat. I had to buy the Pioneer Double DIN kit and it worked like a charm. Hope this helps. BTW, this install was for a friend. From my last contact with her, the radio is doing well. Now, she worried about it getting stolen...she lives in the Bay Area.
  14. Yes, I would stay away from the countershaft speed sensor. I used that on my Ridgeline and got way too many pulses (I was getting thousands going less than 5mph)...you will get errors from the Z1.
  15. Before the merger was announced, Sirius was developing a NavTraffic equivalent...this news was posted about 6 mos ago. Now I know why nothing has come of it because the two companies were looking at merging.
  16. If your Element is anything like the Ridgeline, there are more than two places where you can tap the VSS. You need to make sure you get the right one. One of the areas I tapped was the in the engine compartment and the speed pulse from that location was too fast. I was getting error messages from the Z1. I ended us using the VSA wire on the passenger kick panel area and that worked. Hope this helps.
  17. If you have a Pocket PC PDA, you can tryout ViaVoice. I have it installed on my iPaq and it works well...not perfect.

    Z1 or Z2?!?!?

Check with Crutchfield's return policy. If you are comfortable with the idea of returning the Z1 after the Z2 arrives...go for it now. From what I hear about the current inventory of Z1s, I'm sure they will sell out of what they have before the Z2s hit the streets. Just my 2¢.
  19. I would suggest using a CC with a $1500 limit. It protects you from any unwanted charges and of course I would check online to see when the charge is posted.
  20. 3D Hybrid is important for features such as the 3D image map you will get at a metropolitan location. Also, it is important if you want to evaluate slope in the diagnostic graphic. The reason you need to drive a certain amount of miles is the Z1 is using the speed pulse to evaluate the 3D Hybrid mode and it needs a certain amount of pulses to get that information. The pulses can only be obtained while the vehicle is in motion.
  21. I installed a Z1 with a Dec '06 build date and I positioned the mic on the driver's side A pillar. I set the volume past the 4 bar mark and no echo at all. I did not try anything higher because it was too loud already. Not sure what the owner will finally decide but high and near the driver seems to be the right choice.
  22. I'm not sure if this was in version 1 but I have version 2 installed and it also has a song alert function (i.e. if one of your selected favorite songs plays on a station that you are not listening to, an alert pops up giving you the option to change stations if you wish).
  23. Agree on all accounts. I found an online retailer selling a Z1 for $1700 only to get an email stating they were out of stock and would not replenish the supply. I had to go to local car audio shop and was able to get one for $2000 out the door.
