1.
Along with the Ipod Adapter, will I be able to control my ipod...just like the N3?? I am getting a good deal on a Z1 and am planning on selling me N1! Thanks!
Yes, but it is very slow and has interface quirks that make it less than ideal. Don't know how it compares to the N3, but the Z1 version is half-baked.
2.
It has nothing to do with licensing, it has to to with a programmer that fell in love with a piece of their code (a timer) and failed to think if the code serves any purpose or if it's just "neat."
Right - what I was saying was I was surprised Apple would not have some UI standards that licensing partners must adhere to, given Apple's relatively insane focus on the perfect user experience - and to use the dock connector, Pioneer had to license its use from Apple. I had thought the same thing regarding a caching/read-ahead....why not? Further, you could
3. Why is "up level" button greyed out when you're on the individual song screen? You cannot "go back" to the current playlist to scroll through and find another song - you must repeat the search process all over again. Numbing... Alternatively, is there a way to keep the screen on the playlist screen, not, after 10 seconds or so, jump to the song detail screen? If this is licensed/approved technology from Apple, I can't believe they permitted Pioneer to omit this basic navigation functinality.
4. Pretty pathetic, but I'm bumping my own question....
5. I spent some time with the manual trying to learn some voice commands, but I'm not sure what the Destination > POI does. It seems to only recognize city names, not POI's themselves - once I say a city name, I'm not given an option to choose a POI, just to set it as a destination. What I'm trying to do (verbally) is choose a city and then search for a POI, either by Category (say, restaurants), or by the POI name itself. Is this possible by voice, or only by touchscreen? Vicinity search works this way, but that's only for a 10 mile (?) radius around your current location. If I know where I
6. I have several ideas, but just a few for the moment: 1) IPOD interface: one feature missing, as far as I can tell, is simply going back to the current playlist - the up folder button is always grey, so you are forced to go to Search and begin the process all over again even if you want to jump ahead or back five or ten songs in the list (yes, I know I could "next" my way thgough, but....) . I should be able to go back up one level from the current song to show the playlist it is in, scrolled to where the current song is in the playlist. This is not only convenient, but safer, sinc
7. I may have found that allowing the AVIC to automatcially pair with the Blackberry results in the unstable connection - connected, not connected, connected, etc... On three occassions now, when it disconnected, I re-enabled the connection from the Blackberry (Comnnect to Device in the option for the Pioneer pairing on the Blackberry) In all three occassions, the connection was not lost for the 10 to 20 minutes I continued to drive. I need to test more - perhaps I was just lucky - but prior to this, it was connecting and disconnecting every few minutes. Still cannot figure out how
8.
I ran into the phone dissconnects thing too. But then realized it was still transferring my whole phone book. Finally figured that it wasnt dissconnecting from the phone but rather the"phone". So in case a call was coming in it would not be disturbed.
What phone was this? A PDA (Blackberry) or "regular" bluetooth phone? Thanks
9.
Is that # specific for bluetooth or a generic Pioneer #? I'd like to call and complain about my rear cam.
The number is generic - the options get you to the Nav support group is my understanding....
10.
Maybe this topic has been addressed before, maybe not... ANYHOW, my Blackberry syncs with the bluetooth adapter with no problem...as long as all I am doing is using the phone. Every time I try to download the business card read feature (downloading my address book), it says my cell phone disconnects. Is anyone else experiencing similar issues? And if so, is there a fix for it?
Which model Blackberry do you have? And how were you downloading your address book? There is no way to initiate a trnasfer on my 8700c ( I can enable the Address Book Transfer featur
11. Pioneer Customer Services 1-800-421-1404 , option 2 then option 4 I spoke with tech support initially, and the person helping me said they have already received several complaints, and they are trying to escalate internally - but the best way is to have as many customers as possible call and formally register a complain (and make sure they open a ticket) Besides stating my displeasure with the Blackberry issue (and the lack of clarity on Pioneer's web site as to what works and what doesn't), I'm asking that they respond with how this will be addressed - can if be fixed with a fu
12. Other than a small error with the wrong BT module being installed, (which they quickly addressed), everything went very smoothly. See Nick at the West Paterson NJ location if you're in this area and looking for an install. Knowledgable and a nice guy.
13. My 8700C syncs up fine, but I cannot tranfer the phone book (in the Blackberry options, there is an option for "Transfer Address Book" - this is an on or off option, not an actionable "send" type feature. I have it on, but no dice) And yes, I do have a BMW, and the car automatically reads the phone book when I start up, so this is frustrating - is it a Pioneer issue? Since it's working with the BT in my BMW, I'm hoping a firmware upgrade will address this...
14. Correct BT module installed, and all is well, except a questions on transfer my phone book - will post a new thread for that. Circuit City in Wayne had the BT module, btw...
15. Does the Z1 come with DVD Nav discs as "backup", or is it just pre-loaded on the HDD? Thanks
16. I just got back, and the rep realized that he sold me the wrong BT module - the older Pioneer model - he apologize profusely, and will rectify it as soon as they get the ND-BT1 in stock, or, if I find it elsewhere, he will install it while I wait and credit me out. Overall, despite the hiccup, I'm pleased with 6th Ave - they also fixed some "old" issues due to wear and tear on the vehicle, and did a very clean job.
17. I think that's the problem - I don't see a mic icon - I'm going to slide the unit out and see if it's connected (or did he connect it in the "Not Used" port right next to the mic port, accidently - looking at the install diagrams, that seems like a mistake opportunity, unless it's not a mini jack...) He must have the new Z1 mic, because it's not in anything that's been returned to me. I'll post results....
18. The microphone from my AVIC 90, which was previously in my vehicle, was used by my installer (his choice, not mine...) I presume the mic should work fine with the Z1, but could this be a problem? (Z1 doesn't see a mic, doesn't activate the Phone Settings menu?)
19. Just got my Zq installed today, and almost everything is working great except Bluetooth. When I go to the Information pane in the nav menu to set up the phone, the Phone Settings menu is greyed out. Now, the BT module is hooked up, because I can pair the phone "invisibly", meaning if I have my phone search for a device, it finds the Pioneer BT and will pair, though I don't have any phone menu or phone book or anything - I can dial from the phone and will play through the speakers, but the mic does not pick up my voice. I'm using a Blackberry 8700c BTW... So, what gives? Any idea
20.
I live in NY and I'm going to order the Z1 through 6Ave. Has anyone had them do the install and if so what did it cost and were you happy with the job done? Thanks. Mac
It's being done *right now* (Monday July 3) - should be ready at 6 pm (this is the West Paterson, NJ location) 6th Ave Springfield NJ did my AVIC 90, 7300 DVD, and a whole bunch of other stuch about five years ago...they did a very good job including making a custom molded facia for the rear seat 333 switcher (the location wsan't so great kids ended up kicking the headphone plugs a l

WHY the locking?
Actually it's all legal. I'm sure they are worried about being sued. I have noticed that European systems seem to not lock out anything, they have a disclaimer, but that's it. Jap systems seem to do the same thing. But I had a Chrysler 300C with a nav system and it did lock everything out. Maybe it's who they "intend" to own the car. It seems like american car nav systems lock stuff out like the Pioneer does. Oh well. You can always flash your lights or get something to do it for you : www.sminntech.com :)
I
22. I'm trying to figure out why Pioneer locks so many features when the car is in motion (putting aside safety issues, etc.) I have a 2006 BMW with their DVD navigaiton system, and nothing, absolutely nothing, is disabled when the car is in motion (and you can get that car in MOTION!) So there obviously is not a legal requirment that Pioneer do this...
