1. I spoke with my installer today - actually a really nice guy - but it appears try did use a speaker wire harness to the Rockford amp as opposed to the one that utilizes rca pre-outs... I hope to get it back to him tomorrow or Wednesday to get the issue corrected.
 2. I just had a 120 installed in a 2010 Nissan xterra that had the Rockford fosgate system - installer used a wiring harness to connect to the factory amp. It works but ut also has a hiss (not rpm related) coming from the speakers, like the system is overdriven - I can even hear slight electronic chirps when a press certain hard or soft buttons. It didn't occur to me until reading this thread that by using a wiring harness, he his basically amplifying an already amplified signal (the speakers outs from the 120. This can't be good or optimal. So do I need a new amp, or is there something h
 3. Sorry, but not a great advertisement for your quality of work. My installer did not hook up the VSS wire either, even though I asked, and I got nicely screwed up for 20 minutes coming out of the Lincoln Tunnel in NY, where it's difficult to pick up the GPS and I was wildly off the street pattern for 15 minutes. Trying to get to a location on the West side during rush hour traffic, with all the one way, no turn, and dead ended streets was ridiculous, and all because the lack of the VSS hookup didn't keep the system on track while out of GPS range. All wires should be connected. Period. I we
 4. I just had a 120BT installed in a Nissan Xterra (2010). Initially, the installer forgot to install the VSS wire, so I went back yesterday to get that done. It is connected, as I do get a sensor reading, but it ranges from 0 to 20, no matter how fast I'm going. Is it supposed to read the actual MPH, and is somehow not connected right, or does the sensor status page represent some other value...? Thanks
 5. I just came to the site to find out about this - I have a Z1 where the screen no longer retracts - its stuck at an angle and only moves in or out about a 1/4 inch, and the screen tilt menu does not appear any more - if anyone has a quick fix for this, please let me know However, I was looking at upgrading to the Z110 - by new wiring harness (I am an installation idiot) - you mean the main molex type connecter called Power Cord in the installation manual? I was hoping to plug and play - Swapping the iPod cable would be easy, and I'm presuming the mic, GPS, Reverse, and Speed connectors
 6. This is getting stranger by the minute...what could be on the disc that ALLOWS the bypass on a formerly non-bypassable Z2, but DISABLES the bypass on a Z1?????? Methinks we need to hear more user experiences, but I understand the reluctance of Z1 owners to try this upgrade (me being one!)
 7. There were extraordinarily few differences between the Z1 and Z2, right?
 8. Well, most important to me is a) does applying this update allow Z-1 owners to continue to use the two-wire bypass, and is it WORTH it? Meaning, I have very little issue with wrong street information - a few missing POIs, but nothing catastrophically wrong. So other than wanting the latest and greatest, do we know how substantially different the data is? I assume there's not cosmetic or functionality changes. If anyone can describe the differences, that would be helpful...
 9. I think he was asking if would post a "disc" image....
 10. I don't know if anyone has procured the Z1 Upgrade disc yet from Pioneer - when someone knows for certain if the retail upgrade now available for the Z1 PRESERVES or KILLS the two-wire bypass, please post your experiences. I'm anal about getting new map/poi data, but like many here, don't want to lock out my unit...
 11. Pioneer's site says this disc is compatible with the Z-1 (presumably because the Z-2 has the more current map data. I have a Z-1 working with the two-wire bypass. Do you have any insight if this upgrade disc will allow me to retain that bypass? Ojne would presume if it adds the two-wire bypass to rev 1 Z-2's, it would leave it intact for the Z-1... Thanks
 12. Does anyone have a Blackberry 8700 here? I can't locate anything on the phone or searching online that indicates how one can adjust the mic gain, so I can try re-pairing as described here.... Thanks
will this piece work with the avic z1? basically will the IP bus connect and read on the head unit? is this worth it? i hope it works with mp3 cd's too.
don't forget the rather simple option of an iPod with Video - there are some fairly simple tools for Macs and PCs to rip DVD's into an iPod format, and away you go...
 14.
I have actually heard that the difference will be only software and not hardware. Will know for sure after SEMA the first week of November
I highly doubt it.

Curious what would happen to the pre-June 2006 "flashing" workaround...if they disable that, would they "enable" the wire-ground method? Or would the early adopters be totally screwed.... Time will tell...
 15.
http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1922&highlight=ipod Search is your friend.
...which in this case leads him to a thread that does not answer his question. There's no way that I can see that a playlist will show anything other than songs, even if you creat a Smary Playlist organized by "artists whose names start with A...." You will still be presented a combined list of songs from all artists who begin with A. It would be nice if it were otherwise, but the real culprit is Pioneer's piss-poor implementation of the iPod interface.
 16.

You can then reselect ipod on the Z1, and use the controls on the ipod, through the onscreen display for me sometimes does not show all information correctly.
I think you mean "though" not "through". Your mistypeing had me thinking there was a work around that allowed you to use the iPod's controls on the Z1's screen. Then you mentioned using video and you completely threw me for a loop. So, to clarify, You CAN NOT use the built in iPod menu of the Z1 to play videos. You must use an A/V adapter cable and the iPod's controls
 17.
If you look on ebay you'll find people who have auctions for ways to utilitize the actual ipod controls because the radio interfaces (except for the n3) are terrible.
' Actually there is a workaround posted on these forums here somewhere, about letting the iPod go into a sleep mode after not using for a period of time (Z1 on another input while the ipod is connected), and then hitting the menu button on the ipod to get it to back out to the main menu. You can then reselect ipod on the Z1, and use the controls on the ipod, through the onscreen displ

 19.

I'm a bit confused - when I had the unit installed, I instructed the installer not to attach the parking brake, and not to ground it - just tape the end up and leave it free. While I have your flasher, I haven't installed it yet, so I've still been manually flashing the lights. When I start the car, I ALWAYS get the parking brake warning, but the flashing bypass ALWAYS works.
Well for this to happen, someone grounded the parking brake and drove around with it grounded. I don't know if you did that first or your installer did that,
 20.
The different reset levels are explained in the manual (at the end). it also explains what is/is not whiped out after the reset. Even though I get the parking brake alarm (and I think my brake wire is grounded), the maunal flashing does seem to work sometimes... But as per Ducatiboy, i will have the brake wire disconnected and will probably get one of his circuit too.
I'm not sure the manual will explain which reset to perform to illegally clear the parking brake warning message....so can anyone let me know?
 21.
Yep, it's grounded. You don't want that (at least not only that). If your unit was made in July 06 or newer, then ground that and the the connector 2 wire grounded. http://www.sminntech.com/z1flash.html (check the 07/06 bypass) If your unit was made in June or before then you absolutely want that parking brake wire NOT grounded. It won't work.
I'm a bit confused - when I had the unit installed, I instructed the installer not to attach the parking brake, and not to ground it - just tape the end up

 23.
From my understanding, the quickest connection between an iPod and an aftermarket radio is found in the Alpine units...it is a direct digital to digital interface.
So I wonder what Pioneer did, since they also licensed use of the dock connector...why not do it right? It's frustrating how may companies don't really care much about what they do. If you're going to design something as capable as the Z1, don't you think you'd want to make sure anything else you design to connect to it would not diminish the user experience, like the iPod interface or even the
 24.
If there are any Nav traffic owners i want to know how do you like the XM Nav traffic, is it worth buying? What are some of the benefits of having Nav Traffic? Also what other options do you have when using the XM? I was reading in my AVIC-N3 manual and it looks like you can also view stocks, view sports scores, and etc.
I'm question the value and may cancel - I'm in Northern NJ, and many popular arteries don't seem to be covered - Route 4, 17, 208, 3, etc.
 25.
If you read my other post "Well... It finally happened" you would know that my AVIC Z-1 was stolen. I wrote an email to pioneer stating what happened and how dissapointed I am in the product and the lack of security. I got a response, to call Pioneer complaint line and disccuss the problem over the phone, so I did. I learned so much. The most important thing that I learned is that they have no tracking mechanisms for the registered products. Meaning there is no way to track the unit via serial number or registration. It is only for updats and future information. So,
