  1. Pioneer expected to release the NEX units at the end of February. When were you actually able to buy yours?
  2. There should be switched power at your radio. It's what turns it on and off with the key. Cigarette lighters and power outlets are a crapshoot. Most cars have those devices hot all the time.
  3. I'm not seeing anything about "AVICSYNC" here. Pioneer Ted and idatalink.
  4. When the NEX units were released Carplay was still an Apple rumor and Pioneer was publicly on the sidelines. But regarding idatalink... it was certainly not implied that this feature would be as restricted as it's turned out to be when it was announced at CES. The chubby bald guy seemed to suggest a far wider availability. An argument could be advanced that Pioneer's advertising is somewhat deceptive. I'm not sure that it rises to the level of being actionable.
  5. Idatalink. For many people, AppRadio doesn't work as expected either. But that's been an ongoing issue for Pioneer for quite a few years now, while they "advertise" it as a feature. You guys are free to file suit or a complaint over "false advertising." Let us know how that works out for ya.
  6. The eight year old they have working on it in India for a bowl of rice and a couple of fish heads ran into a snag?

    Update on z150?

At the risk of seeming cynical, your head unit most likely pretty much is what it is. Look around at the other discontinued units. Maybe if there's still something they consider a major bug and a threatened lawsuit over it. Otherwise, our units are orphans while Pioneer moves on to more profitable cash cows.
  8. I'd be willing to bet that the Pioneer connector has changed. I've heard that the NEX units will accept the AVIC-Z150BH and its relatives' connector. I don't think it'll take connectors from older units.
  9. Wingnuts? What are they? If you're referring to wire nuts, there is no real automotive application for them. They are for residential and commercial electrical applications where there is no movement once the connection is made. The same can not be said about cars. PIDG butt splices are marginally better, but require the proper tool. The $5 Home Depot crimping tool is not the proper tool. The correct way to join two wires in a mobile application is solder and heat shrink. The advice to find a forum...several would be better... for your car is good. I just put a non AVIC Pioneer unit in
  10. The firmware almost assuredly will come from Pioneer. The nav data is another story. My understanding is that once AVICSYNC is released, the map updates will be handled over the air.
  11. That's the trouble with HD radio. It's very line of sight and isn't good for much beyond 30 to 40 miles or so from the station's antenna.
  12. They haven't yet announced that support. I believe most here are waiting to see how well or not the implementation of Carplay works out.
  13. What the thieves left you was only the antenna. If you're going to go the 4000 route, joemamma is correct that you'll need the U260 module. The antenna is the same for both units.
  14. For the Samsung phone you'll need the Play Store app "Drive Link." From the bit of playing I did with that app, it sorta kinda looks like AppRadio. It also looks like it might even work, unlike AppRadio. Let us know how it works out if you can get it running. That might be the impetus for me to get a NEX unit.
  15. Are you referring to the 3.5mm jack that's part of the cable? That's for audio, which is why it doesn't play when you unplug it. I'm not sure what the deal is with that. It's the same basic setup that I had when I was running a 2400BT with its front mounted USB.
  16. It's been a problem for quite a while. My Z150 doesn't sort for squat, either. I remember seeing complaints about that from the point Pioneer started putting USB ports in their head units.

    Nex 8000 rant

The Nexus 7 seems to be a popular tablet for head unit service. I've got too much money wrapped up in the Z150 to just chuck it. If I'm on a trip, I use the Nexus for Waze and Power Amp. I'd run the phone through the Z150 using AppMode if it wasn't such crap.

    Nex 8000 rant

I don't expect my head unit to be a tablet. That said, my Nexus 7 has a far superior screen and lots of more available memory, in a much smaller package, while being completely customizable. It is better than a third cheaper. The only thing keeping my Nexus from being a full time head unit is its lack of a radio, steering wheel controls and hands free Bluetooth... and there are workarounds for most of that. I can't for the life of me understand why Pioneer... or any of the other major automotive audio players... can't take readily available hardware and develop a full featured, reasona
  19. With the exception of the occasional freezes and reboots, my iPod Classic 160 gig works fine with my Z150.
  20. I'm guessing that NEX does traffic the same way that my Z150 does it. It's part of the HD radio, and its not available everywhere.
  21. I had hoped that the NEX units were better at "learning" routes than the Z150. Waze seems to have that capability.
  22. One would think that with Apple's name on the program, they'd demand better. That said, AppMode has been temperamental as long as there's been an AppMode, which has been long enough that Pioneer should either get it right finally or simply ditch it.
  23. I suspect it interfaces with Pioneer's external navigation module.
  24. I don't speak programmer, but what caught my eye was the 8 GB SD card. Is it that simple to upgrade a 7000 to an 8000? I wouldn't think that the disassembly required to reach the SD card would be too onerous. Could this be adapted to the NEX series? Fascinating work. I'd be willing to buy one if the modding work is this easy.
  25. True. But when the new NEX units came out, Pioneer forgot they made older units. They haven't made a habit of adding new features to discontinued units.
