  1. Likely your bypass (or handbrake if you're not using a bypass) has not triggered properly to enable that function on the head unit.
  2. I have this same issue. When I had my 4S connected to the stereo via Pioneer's 30pin adapter it all worked well. I could do app mode, and with app sound mixing control the volume of the iPod music or any other device I selected from the stereo. When I switched to the 5S and started using the HDMI adapter this ability went away. Now, perhaps if I turn off app sound mixing it would let me select USB1 to play music and/or allow me to control the volume if I use the Music app on the iPhone. The quick and dirty solution for your problem is to go straight to the lightning cable, you'
  3. Navi apps in general will hit the GPS harder than "regular" maps app. They need to have a more precise location to be able to figure out if you took that exit or not. Also, they'll likely do predictive movement, either based on the sensors or just guessing. (I know that Waze does this since you can watch it show you going down the wrong road when you've missed a turn until it actually catches up with where you are.
  4. The Map that shows up on the Head Unit when you select the Map button is not Apple's map. I believe this is sourced by the AppRadio app from somewhere, but I'm not sure where from. When you say choppy do you mean that the image is jagged? Or are you saying that the map doesn't follow you well while you're driving? For those who find that Waze doesn't get them to the right place; remember Waze's data is community sourced. If you're finding there are errors in your area then you can make the corrections/improvements yourself. At very least report the errors and report the incorrect
  5. No way no how. Windows goes on a PC, the deck in your dash is nowhere near PC spec. Pioneer doesn't release the processor specifications, but you can be sure that it's NOT an i386 compatible processor; they will choose a lower cost processor more suited towards this specific application. Never mind the fact that the rest of the system to load a different OS does not exist.
  6. I have this specific radio and have played quite a bit with my wife's iPhone 5 (I have a 4s). You'll get everything you want plus app mode. First off, for simple sound/iPod output you can use JUST a lightning cable to get that to happen. You'll be able to control from the head unit (and get artwork on the head unit from your phone). To do Apps (ie Waze) you'll need the HDMI/Lightning connection (simple, non-proprietary cables) and a Bluetooth connection (the bluetooth as far as we can figure is control only, it's not transporting audio.) While having Waze open you can have audi
  7. Your parking brake bypass isn't working. I have mine on a switch, if I've not switched it enough times the exact same thing shows on my screen. Are you using a micro bypass, switch or nothing?
  8. Solved it. One of my speakers was shorting out, bent the tab off the speaker and I got sound. The Picture Settings didn't come up because it requires the handbrake to be on, so I toggled the switched wired to that.
  9. So, this morning, at the start of an epic, 3000km road trip with my family (including 2 young kids), my AVH-X8500BHS decided that we didn't need sound. It seems that the internal amp (just connected directly to my stock speakers) isn't on; even when I turn the stereo all the way up I don't hear a hiss. We fiddled with it a bit on our way to the stereo shop and I tried the reset in the manual (ignition off, press the reset button). It worked! The unit came back to life. Then it died again 150km down the road. Now no matter how many times I reset it I can't sound to work. The only thing
  10. The quick answer is, of course. The long answer is: what do you mean? If you're looking at hooking up an SSD drive through USB then it shouldn't have any problems, as long as the USB port can deliver enough power to power your SSD in a case.
  11. I have had this problem on my AVH-X8500 and my previous stereo AVH-P3300 while using my iPhone 4S Periodically, randomly, the output display (Usually Waze but I've had it happen with other apps to) will reduce in size so it's not taking up the whole screen; there's about 5mm from each side and rounded corners that's black. Anyone else seen this? Does anyone know why it's happening, or better yet, how to fix it?
  12. You should be able to exit out by hitting the Mode button to the right of the home button. Does this not work?
