  1. Before Hyperlite came up with the update CD, you needed to unlock your drive to load a couple files when it was hooked to the computer. With Hyperlite's ISO file, no unlock needed. Unless you want to hook your Z1/Z2's hard drive to the PC to mess with the files in there, unlocking is not necessary.
  2. If you open up Nero Burning Rom program, I believe that it's under the menu BURNER - BURN IMAGE And to get it, you can get a demo at www.nero.com and if you don't feel like paying for it, SN's are usually easy to come by, you can search astalavista.box.sk (with firefox or something with pop up blocker, not safe for work, make sure you have an anti virus program running). But it's a good program and worth the money.
  3. Believe it or not, the bypass working and then not like you describe is exactly how any Z1 or Z2 can act when you just have the parking brake sense wire grounded. I wish pioneer was a little more absolute about it but this type of functionality has been giving me (and others here) headaches for the last few years. The level of software and checks that the AvicZ line has and when it does them is not absolute and it's very confusing, it makes your installer think the bypass software is buggy..... It's not, at least that's not my/our experience. What you describe, at least in terms o
  4. Thanks... I think. I would hate to replace one with the other.... Cause I was out the other day and stepped in ducatiboy and it took forever for the smell to wear off. You are welcome.
  5. Oh, it's not flaky, it just has your position at a different location? Just park at a known intersection and go in at edit your location to exactly where you are, that should fix that. After a software update, it probably "lost" or recalibrated your position on the planet. You can set that and you should be dead nuts on. And the brake warning being new? Was your parking brake grounded during this update and bypass? If so, that's the second wire in connector 2. That's not grounded.
  6. Just plain Nero won't do it without Nero Recode I believe. Personally I like the TMPGENC and the TMPGENC DVD Author for my stuff, I think it gives the best quality. Can be a bit slow on older hardware and quite a learning curve and not the most intuitive software, but more settings than you will know what to do with at first. Things like Ulead DVD Movie Factory are decent, poor quality video but it's pretty quick and easy to use. So you can use Nero Recode (someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's it), or Ulead DVD Movie Factory, or if you want TMPGENC stuff. I l
  7. I guess that would depend on what you meant by that. Do you mean that when you start the car it's not always dead on? Or when you are moving sometimes it shows you stopped or when you are stopped it shows you moving? If you have weird issues like that I would make sure your GPS antenna is on the top of the car and is stuck to something metallic, not just thrown on the dashboard. Having the antenna magnetically stuck to a large piece of metal helps reception. And then I would check the VSS wire to make sure that's right, it's not loose or not compatible. If that is not the correct wire
  8. Yes and yes. Nero is not required but it's a very good program. Just not windows, it doesn't burn disk which are compatible with anything other than windows
  9. 1. stop hijacking threads 2. look at the top of the hacks/mods section it's a sticky and right at the top http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 83&start=0
  10. Yah, I would focus on the "ground this pin" wire. That is what people who have a problem usually have a problem with. I don't know why. But usually it's in the connector there, not on the other end where they ground it. Those terminals are small and have to be inserted in the correct orientation. And some people don't or don't put them in all the way and they make loose connections.
  11. If you unlock both drives it should be pretty easy to copy the files from one to the other. I have some acronis backup images which, when I restore them seem to put my Z1 into some weird lockup reboot mode (software update failed messages). I think if you do it at the file level, it's ok, but I'm having trouble with the whole restore image. But people have told me you can do it. I just haven't gotten to it yet. Or you can pay pioneer the $250. OR wait till someone tells you how to crack their code for SN/install codes.
  12. I think you might be confused. The cell phone mute is a sense wire, not an output wire. If you use a 3rd party cell phone system it will output a signal which would (if I remember correctly) go high when you are on the phone and the Z1/Z2 will watch this wire and when it sees this wire go from ground to +12, it will mute the stereo. This wire is an input into the Avic which when you give it +12V it will mute the stereo, not that when you are on the phone it will output something that you can take advantage of. Sorry.
  13. Grounding is basically connecting the other end of the wire to the negative terminal of the battery. Of course there are lots of points in your car that are connected to the negative terminal of the battery. The entire metal shell of the vehicle is all ground. The easiest thing is to is connect it to the black wire going to the head unit, that's ground (all those points are connected together).
  14. I had half a mind to use my admin powers here to edit your link and redirect the money in to my account. I thought it would be funny. I was wondering how long it would have taken you/anyone to notice. I wouldn't have kept it... and I didn't do it either. I still think it would have been funny.
  15. No they really don't have much in common. But if the speed sense wire was hooked up and the bypass was not done (or was done half assed) it would error out every time more reliably. It would lock you back out more regularly with the speed sense hooked up. When it's not hooked up it would rely on gps and internal gyros to sense motion. Soldering is ALWAYS best. You are going to get a better connection with solder, but crimps are ok too, if they are done right. 2 wires Vs. 1 wire? No... Almost every metal part in your engine compartment and body are all ground. It doesn't matter
  16. That and I type really really fast. 3.2 seconds....
  17. Maybe it's cause you burned it on a mac. Is it a possibility to get a friend with a PC to download and burn it?
  18. That would pose a problem I guess. Maybe the ISO is not ready for prime time? I have no Z2 to test it.
  19. don't know, I doubt it. The unlock software is only for the PC, but it saves the data. If your data is messed up, there might be little reason to save it. I don't know a free program which will unlock it and wipe out the data on PC or MAC. I don't know of any tools for the mac which would do this, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
  20. When I got to this type of problem and it was a bad burn, I didn't know it was a bad burn and I pulled out the drive and restored it from a previous backup. So something can be done. I don't know what the deal is with hyperlite's iso. But worse comes to worse, the drive can be unlocked and restored with a stock image and brought back to life.
  21. This happened with the bluetooth update disk. Take the disk out and put it into a PC and try to copy all the files from the disk into a folder. If it works, I don't know how to help you. If it fails then it's a bad burn, if it's like the bluetooth update disk you should be able to reburn it and stick it into the drive and complete the update with a new disk.
  22. jehenry, No problem. I hate to speak for others here, and not to belittle anything anyone here has done... but I almost feel that Pioneer is the one who came up with the bypass. We are just using it. There are even rumors that they will be putting an iso on their site for bypassing Z2's. So there is no way I would take your money. There are a bunch of 1000+ post members here who have been working very hard to try to come up with something. And I guess I can't speak for them. As I see it, I would keep your money (others might disagree). I'm just very happy you offered to try to pay
  23. Thats good, if you want to get rid of the warning now you have to hit the recessed (reset) button to the right of the eject button. But until you fix the second wire it will come right back when you start driving. This is because when you parking brake is grounded it interferes with the flashing of the lights, and no matter what you can't watch DVD's while moving. You would have to unground the parking brake and reset the unit (as above) before the flashing would work again. I don't remember it's in the manual. Pink seems to stick in my mind, but I don't remember, look in
  24. Wow , you only have 3 posts and you are talking all this smack. man, You crack me up djmixmac, how his jehenry's post "talking all this smack"? If I were jehenry I would be a little pissed at this post as well. He offered $ to bypass the Z2, people have been working hard, pioneer came up with it for the most part and we are trying to just get it out there and jehenry asked for advice where to send his money? How is this smack. I think it's commendable for someone when something like this comes out to even still offer to give this promised reward.
  25. As far as I know I only have one picture, and it was the most simple way I could explain it. http://www.sminntech.com/z1flash.html#newbypass I don't think I can make it any more simple than that, I have updated the instructions a few months ago, if you looked before that maybe it's more descriptive for you. I think hyperlite is right, cd rom loaded is what you get on the AV screen, you need to hit MAP and it will start the update. The speed pulse is due to a mistake when installing, either they forgot to hook up the speed pulse sense wire or they hooked it up wrong.
