  1. Mine did not do it once I turned VR catalog off. However, mine also forgot all the voice names after I went to go use it again. I would say "Play artist ..." and it would not recognize a single thing. Could have been due to not having the official cable though.
  2. The thing is, I KNEW there were going to be bugs. But more minor bugs. Things like the bluetooth dropping the phone, or the voice control being a bit off, or the "Menu" button not working on the iPod screen like on the D3. Little things. I was prepared to see some glitches and weird stuff. Freezing, restarting, and error messages due to finding POI, taking 3 minutes to start up, and the bluetooth being pretty much totally useless for talking to others are not things that I would expect to have gone wrong out of the box. I did not have any issues like this with the D3 or the 5120.
  3. I got rid of it about a month or so before I got the 700BT. The ONLY, and I mean ONLY thing that made me get rid of it was that the F series had voice control and loved that idea. Other than that I had no stability problems with the 5120. Great sound, wicked fast iPod control, great bluetooth, and a VERY sensitive touch screen (Or more responsive interface). Way, way more responsive than my D3 and much more than the F700. I never, ever had to press the same spot twice to get things to register. What is the point of iPod voice control if everything else makes me take my eyes off the road e
  4. Yeah, the bluetooth in this unit is done by parrot and not through the Garmin interface. Check out the Navi portion of the user manual here: http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/113/113DNX8120.PDF The navi part is at the bottom portion of the PDF. As you can see, the Navtraffic/Weather is beautifully integrated to the Nav software with the ability to check the weather near the POI and much more.
  5. Garmin beats the crap out of the Pioneer nav hands down. Mainly due to it not crashing when searching POI and text to speech actually working for street names. The only thing that I wish the Garmin had was to be able to direct dial the POI via bluetooth like the F series can. But when the POI search crashes damn near every time, and the outgoing Bluetooth sounds terrible.. well its not very much fun. With the Kenwood you can get the GXM 30 XM Radio tuner that gets XM Radio, NavTraffic as well as NavWeather and puts it all through the nice looking Garmin interface. It will overlay weather c
  6. The resolution of the Kenwood is less at 480x234 vs 800x480. But at these tiny screen sizes, there's no noticeable difference for interfaces, menus, maps, etc but is more noticeable with DVDs. Dvds have resolution of 720x480 which is damn close to the F series native resolution. However, though the resolution on the Kenwood is lower, the screen is much more vibrant and bright, even in direct sunlight. I had the 5120 and could see it clearly even on the brightest of conditions. Rdkl talked out the issue of screen brightness yesterday when he had the same problem of not being able see
  7. I have a canbus adapter, the illumination is not the problem. The DRLs have nothing to do with the illumination feed that it gets from the canbus. I have had two other units that dimmed properly off the same feed when the head lights are on. When you go into the video settings to adjust the brightness on the F series, if I turn my headlights on, the brightness setting goes from 10 to 8. That is how you adjust for each setting. Turn headlights off, adjust for day viewing, turn headlights on and the setting for night time can be changed. Well, I'll post pics on Thursday to compare to when m
  8. Just for comparison. My DNX5120 and my D3 under similar conditions.
  9. I'm taking the 700BT back to the store right now, ordering an 8120. I can't stand the Bluetooth and Nav on this thing. A friend called up on my way home today and said it sounded like I was being attacked by gorillas and that he would have to call me back later. The nav routing was plain terrible. It does say one POINT five miles, etc, not 'comma'. That's good I guess. Brightness is at 10, came out of the box at that setting. I'm mad that this thing did not work out, but the freezing (Froze again today while recalculating the route) and all the other bugs have thrown me off of this unit f
  10. Kenwood actually had a whole recall on the 7120/8120 at the end of March/Beginning of April. The more I think about it, the more I can not decide.
  11. The POIs are no longer by region. You just search by name or by type and it lists them by distances.
  12. Hi-volt preouts, DVD player (When I got the 700, I had an xbox 360 in the car for media duties, that did not work out with the F series only having 1 av input on the rear and I'm not the type to use front jacks). Plus the 2 year warranty, MSN Direct, Speed Sense wire (I actually have it ran and I want to use it FWIW) and the rest are all icing on the cake. I sold the 360 to a friend and that will cover the cost of upgrading.
  13. I have the 700BT and can not yet find the official cable for the iPod so I am using the PC USB cable for the iPod along with a mini jack to RCA adapter going into AV1 (Set to 'iPod') for audio. The main issue at hand. Everytime I start the car, I have to unplug and reconnect the iPod to get the 700BT to see the iPod again. And each time, I have to sit there and wait for the "iPod Control May be limited at this time" prompt to go away as it scans the files for voice control. I read that letting it go through this once and then turning VR Catalog to off in the settings fixes this problem. H
  14. Resolution wise, the Pioneer is great. It's true DVD resolution and looks damn impressive with movies at night. The screen itself is not that dim, it is the interface that is dim. The black on dark gray color scheme is unchangeable so it may as well be a like having a dim screen. You can not change the color of the menus to something brighter or with more contrast. Driving around in the day, all you can see on the screen is black with some faint letters and icons. I'll try to snap a pic tomorrow to show you what I mean. When I used the nav to go out to dinner the other night, the maps looked a
  15. I have been flipping back and forth between these two units ALLLL week. I currently have the 700BT which is going back for the 90BT tomorrow. Though the current F series units are riddled with issues, and the 8120 looks awesome with Garmin nav, two usb ports, two av inputs, relay controls, dual zone, Hi volt preouts, etc. Though, I just can not give up the voice control for iPod. That is my primary source and I have tons and tons of music. Being able to sit there and change through my hundreds of classic rock and prog rock albums with long titles all while flying onto an entrance ramp is a
  16. Also, today, I found that the TTS for street names, etc is not working. On my trip it just said the basic directions, no highway names, etc. Also, could not recognize traffic circles or jug handles, just called them right and left turns.
  17. The animation of the map moving while driving is buttery smoooth. There's no jerkyness to it at all until you zoom in like alll the way. Also, there is now speed sensitive volume for GPS prompts. The ability to call up a POI works very well. OH, and theres no more waiting for XM logos to pop up for the channels.
  18. Good thinking about the Mic! I mean, I can hear the other end as clear as day so who knows. Also some further observations: -My unit always has either a "Out of Memory" error pop up or freezes/reboots when searching for POI. However, everything goes just fine if I search for a POI using category mode instead of using the "search" button at the bottom left of the POI screen. Does anyone else have a similar problem when using search. Like, my results come up, but as soon as I try to browse them or go into them further for info, after a few seconds, it either freezes up, reboots, or gives me
  19. Pioneer better have a firmware update out, and QUICK. None of this "in a year" bullshit. I don't know how they could screw up the bluetooth calls. I mean, my BTB200 was crystal clear, and then they go license technology from Parrot, supposedly the market leader, and now everything is crappy. So sick of Pioneer getting it so close to perfect, but the closer they seem to get, the bigger they F up. Right now, I'm almost tempted to get another D3. Hearing that the 90BT is having similar issues is a bit unnerving. Is anyone else having the same issue where when your listening to the b
  20. Yeah, but before, like on the D3, that warning only showed up when you went to actually use the nav, now it shows up upon starting the system, regardless of whether or not you even go into the nav menus. A small annoyance.
  21. Me too. Man, I can't wait to get a 90BT. That better not have all these damn bugs.
  22. The phone pairs about 30 seconds or so after bootup is complete.
  23. Yeah, same here. Called like three people the other day and two of them complained that I had to speak up, etc. My D3 never, EVER had any issues with people hearing me. I'm getting fed up with this.
  24. I have not found the option in the settings to turn the chime off for everything. I found it for the nav portion, but that's it. I can't believe how skimpy the settings menu is. Simple and well laid out, yes, but there just seems like there should be more than what is there. Especially compared to the D3.
  25. No that was through the USB stick. I think they were mostly WMV/MP4. Also, I agree about the bootup time. I'm really starting to miss by D3. The thing booted quickly, looked great, and no REAL bugs. Some quirks, yes, but no OS issues.
