1. Well, gee, consider me matured then. :D However, as it seems some here feel they know my intentions, let me leave those with this ... could it be that I really wasn't trying to be a "smartass" and knew that asking about the windows COULD actually come across as sounding like I was making a wisecrack? Therefore, I wanted to assure those that the question was sincere and valid. However, it doesn't matter, since apparently I'm defensive, and a smartass afterall, and asinine too. Can I get a bid on sarcastic and ultimately don't even care anymore? :? Again, enjoy your ride, the windows down, Ke
2. Hummer_h3, What is asinine is that people assume an answer to be asinine. If a mug joins the forum on July 12, 2006, and on October 9, 2006, his second, of only two, post asks the question how did people, "smarter" than him (his words and not mine), figure out how to keep dust from building up on the Z1 screen, then asking if he has the windows up or down, and if he has A/C or not, are valid questions and not asinine. I thought Fanito's reply was funny and not asinine. I even took it as directed towards me and not phatmonkey. However, I saw the non mean-spirited comedy in what Fanito
3. Not trying to be a smartass, but since you said you drive with the windows down a lot, perhaps a solution is to drive with the windows up. Do you have A/C in your ride?
4. Are you serious? Where do you live? I've not had any problems day or night with dust on my Z1. Fingerprint smudges are another story, but that is something I just need to take care of once a week with a quick 10 second wipe with an eyeglass cloth across the screen. Do you park outside a lot? With the windows and top down or sunroof open?
5. Can someone post a picture of what it should look like if your 3D is working?
6. As far as I know, none will "integrate" with the AVIC-Z1. I have an Escort Passport 8500 x50 radar detector that is hardwired in my vehicle and it is great. I also have the Escort ZR3-Shifter Laser on the front and rear of my car.
7. Cosmic Gecko, Are you serioius? :) While I'm all for having a car alarm. I'd have one of those whether I had a Z1 or not. However, carrying around torx screwdrivers and unistalling the hard drive everytime you park at night and/or park in a "shady" area? Good grief!!! All that removing and putting back in of the hard drive can't be all that good on your unit either. I can't believe that you would feel better that your AVIC-Z1 was still gone (stolen if you will) but hey, you still have the hard disk drive and therefore the crook/thief can't use the AVIC-Z1 head unit either. So, you b
8. GPS is dead-on here in Columbia, Maryland. I've had no problems in Maryland, D.C., West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Can't understand those are are saying the GPS/Navigation on this thing sucks. I can live with it being off by 10'. For example it always tells me that "You've arrived" about 10' before I am really in my garage at home. BIG DEAL!!! If I can't find where I need to go when I am just 10' away, then I need more than a Pioneer AVIC-Z1. :-)
9. My opinion is that is is pretty good. Better when not moving, but in this Baltimore/Washington area, I get more than enough channels clear enough to say I got my money's worth. However, if you can afford it, I'd recommend the DirecTV option and get satellite tv in your vehicle.
10. Thanks. You are an AWESOME resource for this site
11. Does anyone have a Suzuki logo graphic that has been made for uploading to their AVIC-Z1? Would anyone who is good a using PhotoShop be interested in making a cool image with the Suzuki logo for me to use? Thanks.
12. Passat 05, I don't know why you felt you needed to say that three (3) times in a row, but hey ... whatever. :D What is so hard about people going to the Pioneer website: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v ... 87,00.html Unless you are counting AVIC-Z1s as Pioneer Home Electronics products now, it seems that they (6th Ave.) are NOT authorized to sell AVIC-Z1s under the moniker of officially authorized online dealers. They may be flirting technicalities since they
13. A business authorized to sell Pioneer televisions is not necessarily authorized to sell Pioneer car stereos or home audio. So, no, you can't say because they are good for any one Pioneer thing, that they are cleared for any and every Pioneer thing.
14. Thanks guys. I will schedule a time back at the installer. As far as the bass being too loud ... well, that is a possibility also. :-) I know I can usually no longer stare at the rearview mirrow for very long due to the vibrating going on there with the bass. :D
15. I think I was in the 3D calibration window or maybe a signal strength window for XM radio, but last night I saw a line that appeared to be a self-diagnostic that said "Excessive Vibration". Should I be worried? The AVIC-Z1 seems to be working fine. The GPS signal is strong and everything else seems to be okay. Should I take my car back to the installer and have them tighten the AVIC-Z1 up if it is indeed loose? Anyone else seem this message on their AVIC-Z1 before?
16. I have a GEX-P5700TV Tuner. I would agree with Cntrylvr79 for the most part. :) When moving the picture certainly is not great, but it is not really horrible for me. When parked, the picture is more than acceptable. Where did you mount your antennas Cntrylvr79? The GEX-P5700TV uses four diversity antennas. Here in Maryland the reception is just so so with this thing. I can't get channel 2(ABC) at all. However, 11 (NBC) and 13 (CBS) come in sort of okay on the VHF band. On UHF, I can get 22 (Public Television), 24 (UPN), 45 (Fox), 50 (WB), 54 (WB) and 67 (Public Television) pretty decently. Ho

Installation Cost

Everything is a ballpark figure. That is why it is called "CUSTOM" work. What is an easy $150 job for one vehicle, is a $10,000 job for another. If I add up EVERYTHING I had done to my vehicle, I spent over $9,000 and I only paid $21,500 for the vehicle. So, almost half of the purchase price of my SUV was paid in aftermarket customization work. Now my $21,500 SUV is a $31,000 SUV. I had the following installed: AVIC-Z1 Navigation Head Unit (AM/FM, CD/DVD) and Microphone Custom AVIC-Z1 dash kit DucatiBoy Flasher Viper 5900 with remote start and spare remote Pioneer GEX-P5700TV TV T

Installation Cost

That sounds about right. My installer took 4 hours to install my AVIC-Z1, the GPS antenna, microphone and the DucatiBoy Flasher circuit, at a cost of $75 per hour. It took another 7 hours and $525 to fabricate and install a custom dash kit for my AVIC-Z1 though to make it look OEM factory. :) I also paid MSRP for the AVIC-Z1. :( Oh well ... it's only money right? You only live once. I'm doing my part to stimulate the economy.
19. My June 06 Z1 was bypassed using Ducatiboy's flasher. It works VERY nice. Good luck to you in finding a June or earlier Z1.
20. Yes. One Alpine MRP-F250 for the front and rear, and an Alpine MRP-M450 for the subwoofer. The front and rears are Polk Audio db6500s component speakers. The sub is a JL Audio 12". The AVIC-Z1 has the Pioneer TV tuner along with the XM satellite NavTraffic receiver added to it. The monitors are Alpine TME-710s built into the headrests.
21. I will do/try that. I plan on going back there on Saturday to get my Viper 5900 installed. Thanks for writing.
22. Thanks. What is the name of this switch that I would need to buy, or is it just any audio switch that will do the trick?
23. I had an installer do the work. He thinks the unit may be defective. The problem is I bought the unit from Crutchfield. So, in order to send it back and get an RMA, I have to have them take the unit out and then wait X number of days to have Crutchfield receive my unit and send me another one. I would probably just opt to have the installer sell me the unit and that way if there is a defect, it can be replaced instantly. The thing that is weird is that the AVIC-Z1 recognizes that there is an XM radio connected. It just keeps saying check antenna and the antenna is connected and plugged in.
24. How do you set-up the AVIC-Z1 to do the following: I want to play music up front (left and right front speakers) while my passengers in the back watch a DVD or TV and listen to it via the rear (left and right rear speakers) and maybe even the subwoofer. I can have it so that I see the map on the AVIC-Z1 screen and the passengers in the back can get a mirror of that, or watch TV or a DVD. I will hear the audio from their source though. What am I doing wrong?
