Hooking up illum. wire could burn factory wiring?!

Recommended Posts

I hooked up the orange wire and mine still doesnt dim at night or change the nav background black when its dark and my lights are on... And when I go into the nav menu and select nighttime or daytime it doesnt change anything. Any ideas? -not trying to threadjack or anything I just was hoping it was something simple

You probably have the wrong illumination wire. You may need to go to the dimmer switch.

the d3 does not have auto illumination like the d1 and d2 does.

on the newer chevys, there is no illumination wire behind the radio...its controlled through the data bus wire. on those i usually hook up the d3 to the headlight switch because of the daytime running light feature on these cars. that way when the headlights are on at night, the d3 will dim and not during the day. only problem is that if you go to the light switch on a lot of chevys, the wire is a negative trigger wire, so you would have to use a relay to reverse polarity.
