kruff10
I think the avic d3 that are made overseas have rds but not in the usa.

skipa4
I'm guessing they're all made overseas. The US ones can't be that different. Has anyone tried to hack a US version to see if the RDS can be turned on? Or is there something different about the format of the US RDS? Gotta be a way!!
whtcrxghst
But its a completely different tuner overseas too. So the RDS is probably built into the tuner that works everywhere else in the world, and the US tuner does not have it. Pioneer decks had RDS like 5 and 10 years ago when none of the radio stations bothered to support it. Nobody demanded it then, so they got rid of it to cut costs
HiFiSi
Won't work. Don't bother.

Why would they have a different tuner? Different specs? There's nothing different about the Euro stations other than the frequency steps - and one tuner could handle that easily. kruff10
yea it sucks , my factory radio had rds, but it still cant touch the d3
GnatGoSplat
If it's anything like the old D1/D2, then it's missing an RDS decoder chip. Just adding the chip won't work, because the System Controller chip (the main CPU which is soldered) is different as well. The US version isn't looking for the RDS chip while the EU version is. The D3 is likely similar.
