Calling POI's via Bluetooth?

With the D3, can you call POI's found on the map directly? Someone with a Z2 mentioned (elsewhere) that they can call, for instance, any restaurant listed as a POI directly via bluetooth. Can we? I can't figure it out if we can.

I doubt it, as the D3's database doesn't include phone numbers, and neither does the bluetooth unit, or your cell phone for that matter.

EDIT: However, you CAN find your way somewhere (usually commercial) by entering a phone number...so that can't be true, can it?

You mean by entering the phone number in your phone and it finding that place on the nav? Doesn't sound very likely either... But I can't say for sure. I don't have the BT unit.

 

I just think for the nav to link with a place's phone number, it would have to have access to pretty much the whole country's yellow pages listings, or internet access, which it has neither.

Many (most?) of the POIs include a phone number, so in theory it should be possible. I don't recall seeing anything like that in the manual though.

 

I do reverse lookups all the time (enter the phone number to find the address).

Only the Z series does that. When you select a POI, the little bluetooth icon on the screen goes from grey to blue. Hit it and it calls the POI. Was kinda cool to use it for a restaurant once

Haven't noticed it on my D3 but my Magellan Roadmate 700 had phone numbers for most of the POIs it had in the memory.

The D3 does have the phone search though, you can enter a phone number and it gives you the business name and address, as well as some residences... (when I entered my phone number it routed to my house .... im wondering if that should concern me....

I tried a couple residential numbers in the D3, including my parents who have been in the same house with the same (listed) number for longer than I've been alive, and it did not show up...so I just assumed it didn't do residential.

its hit and miss.

strange how they have some but not others.

i tried looking up by nember too but it seemed like i could only do a number search if that numbers address was saved in my address book.

tried numbers that were not in there and it didnt work
