cover for the z1

a buddy of mine owns the shop that installed my system (Tucson, AZ) He gave me a small sheet of black ABS to play with. I have enough for about 8 more similar size pieces. He buys it in bulk and has a lot of different finsishes. I can get a bunch more if folks are interested...

I'd be interested in a couple 12x12 or so pieces to experiment and see what I can come up with. I'll try to find some locally first though. It would be a real pain for you to have to mess with shipping out little pieces of plastic to a bunch of people. If I can't find any, I'd throw you enough for the ABS and some more money to cover your hassles.

Its really no big deal. I already have the plastic, so I just need to cut it to size and get an envelope. If you still need it, just let me know. I think I will try Jason's idea of taking a picture of the original stock radio and mounting to the cover. I'll post pics of the results if they look good.

So, I feel like its time for me to contribute, since I've been leeching information from this site for about 2 months now. I installed the Z1 and some extras in my Xterra and also did the faceplate thing with my old head unit. Pretty happy with the results. Check out the before, after and faceplate pics. Enjoy. Stoked!

I don't need a cover for my radio, you can't see it:
This post kind of died. I'm interested in faking something. I liked the ABS slab with post-it notes. Where can I buy plain old ABS slabs like that?
You can get the Abs from any car audio installer. Best Buy's installers have it too.

I am going to go this route also. I have dark tint on my car, but why not redundancy? Stoked, any tips for someone else trying this out? also How do you attach your cover to the z1? I just won this on ebay and I am going to try to make a cover out of it for my Z1 in a mustang GT

Hi Stoked,

Your Z1 cover looks great. I bought a stock radio on ebay and I am going the same route. Could you post a couple of pictures of the back of the fake to show how you mount it on the Z1? I know you said you put foam on the back to protect the Z1 but how do you hold it in place?

Thanks in advance.
