1.
can someone show how you are attaching the factory front of the deck to the Z1 to make it stay....Thanks!
I ended up choosing velcro as seen here. http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1632&highlight=
2.
Mini firewire or 2.0 USB slot would have been just too smart and too perfect on this unit! Grrr.
I think the reason they dont allow direct MP3 dumps is to deter piracy. In reality though, theres nothing preventing you from burning your pirate songs to a cd and loading them into the library that way, so the whole thing is stupid and just more of an annoyance.
3.
you can recess the avic-z1 unit a little further back, upon install. Your faceplate will the slide in perfectly. I will post pictures on how my F-150 was done.
Yes, please post pictures if you get a chance.
4. WOW, what a nightmare. I am really sorry to hear you had such a horrible experiance with 6th avenue. I am curious to hear how all this pans out. I will say, I've never had dealings with 6th avenue, but after hearing this I never will. Also, don't hesistate to contact the Better Business Bureau (http://www.bbb.org) and the Consumer Protection Agency (http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/consumer/home.html). When stuff happens we need to report it. Sure one report might not mean anything, but if these agencys keep getting the same complaints maybe they will revoke their business
5.
nice job im planing the same thing for my car but i dont like the idea of velcro melting on my head unit since its hot here in florida. i was leaning more to a method where i can slide sum clips around the unit since i have just enough space to do it. thiers gonna have to be sum more modification to it when i get it done ill post pics and here comments
I look forward to it. If I can find a more viable alternative to velcro I am all about it.
6.
I think it looks great... What radio was that from? How did you cut it?
It was one I bought off ebay. My car is a Ford Mustang, so I was just looking for factory Ford Head Units. I found that one that the seller said was an OEM headunit out of a Ford F-150, Got it for 40bux. Picture from the auction listing: I cut it using a dremel and cutoff wheel made for plastic. Here is a link to what im talking about http://tinyurl.com/juu5n Cutting the plastic was fairly ea
7. I decided to make a fake faceplate to make my Z1 look more like a factory OEM head unit to hopefully deter thieves. I got the idea after reading about others doing the same thing on here like Stoked. Below are some pictures of the finished product. It was quite simple to do you just need a head unit you can trash, Superglue to glue buttons into place and to attach the foam to the plate, Velcro to attach the plate to the head unit, foam to protect the screen, and a couple of hours to complete the project. I also used a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel made for plastic to trim the faceplate d
8. You do in fact realize this is all a game with pioneer though. You can count that they are lurking here reading all this and will soon dream up another fix. Sadly, I don't think we will ever checkmate them. hoorey for this victory though. I do appriciate your honesty and would buy from you any day.
9. I recently had the idea to use rewriteable's so I could load music onto the music library HDD, so I could reuse them. I went out and bought a Philips brand RW disc and burned it. The Z1 recognized the disc and even read it, and ripped it to the HDD. The only problem is, the track was skipping like crazy(on the live play and the HDD recorded play). The reason I attribute to this is the Z1 isnt quite compatable with this brand (or RW's in general). Has anyone had any success with RW's in the Z1? if so please let me know which brand, so I can try it. -Tom
10. ducatiboy, does your circuit ignore any input on the white wire until the flashing bootup sequence is complete? -Tom
11. I am going to rig a 44 magnum inside the air conditioning vent., and tie the unit to the trigger using a series of pullys and fishing line. I figure ill have enough slack that they can get the unit just barly out of the dash when the trigger will pull and shoot them in the face. I will have attack dogs on standby that are trained to attack at the sound of gunfire. Lastly, for backup, I am going to have Gary Coleman in the trunk 24/7, his agent said hes available for $50 a week. Seriously, the razorblade idea sounds funny, I HAVE to see pics of this.
12. I am going to go this route also. I have dark tint on my car, but why not redundancy? Stoked, any tips for someone else trying this out? also How do you attach your cover to the z1? I just won this on ebay and I am going to try to make a cover out of it for my Z1 in a mustang GT
So, I feel like its time for me to contribute, since I've been leeching information from this site for about 2 months now. I installed the Z1 and some extras in my Xterra and also did the faceplate thing with my old head unit.
13. would something like this also require an update to the Z1 software?
14. I havent tested this, but I think I read on here that you can burn DVD-Audio discs, which fit more songs, and you can rip to the HDD with that.
15.
I don't know what he did wrong the first 3 times or what he did right this time, but it worked.
not to flame, but Geesh, 4 times to get it right. Thats scary, its not a hard install AT ALL. Were talking 4 wires and they are all color coded. ducatiboy couldent have made it simpler unless he flew out to your location to install it himself.
