My GPS is stuck in Los Angeles :-(

Recommended Posts

The AVIC-D3 has been working flawlessly for over a year. Last night it did something weird. I was driving home and everything was ok...suddenly I looked down and my map had changed from my location (San Diego) to Los Angeles. Yet I'm not moving anywhere on the screen but it does show that I'm turing directions just not going forward or back. I checked the connection settings and everything seems to be ok. Any suggestions?

If you do a search on the D-series board for "Los Angeles" you'll see a number of people have had this problem. Here's a few results. You should find some info and maybe even an answer in these somewhere.

Could be a scratched/unreadable disk, poor satellite signal. power issue, or even an internal problem with the unit. A reset or maybe clearing the learning status could help fix it, but there's no way to know if it would be a temporary or permanent fix...

Thanks...like always should have searched first. After I posted I did type Los Angeles in and saw the multiple posts on this subject. I used the reset pinhole button and that fixed the problem. I'm crossing my fingers, hoping it doesn't become something that I have to do all the time. Thanks guys...this is a great forum.

It will most likely happen again. I have had two D3's do this and they were both tested as defective once I sent them in. I am now on my third unit. In my case with both units, the GPS signal would start dropping out. First gradually then constantly and consistently. It would finally cease to work at all. All other functions of the unit continued to work however. Judging by the current problems with the F series and my personal experience with my D3s I believe we will start seeing more and more of this. It just seems there is no real quality control with Pioneer nav systems at this point. There have been several people post this problem recently. This is why I have decided to not support Pioneer any longer.

Well, that's quite unfortunate. I did see many posts with the same problem. I think I'm out of warranty so I doubt I can claim this to Pioneer. The main reason I got the D3 was because of the built in GPS...without it it's just an overgrown CD player with IPOD connectivity.

Yea, plan on it happening again. Mine did the same thing, except put me in NY somewhere (brooklyn or manhattan i think) sitting still, but would still show me turning, even though it still showed a speed pulse and perfect GPS signal. I'm with VBLUE, and never buying another Pioneer product. My experience with this unit has just been too bad.
