I just installed the AVIC-Z1 in my Hummer H3. I was hesitant to buy the Bluetooth unit after reading here about all the problems. However, I was pleasantly surprised that I don't experience the same ECHO problems that so many users do. The installer put my Mic on the top corner (drivers side) of my windshield. I was a little worried since its so close to that speaker. But everything seems to work fine. I even tested in from the other end. The only complaint I've received is that the sound on the other end is a little lower than normal. But that was from my Mom, who can't hear very well.

so from what i am gathering, we dont really need the parrot mic cause it has no noise reduction or any sort. the noise reduction is from the other part of the hardware, prolly from the phone or other equipment.

as for the parrot mic, i did read somewhere that its better then the z1 mic because it has a better directional mic and not because of a better noise reduction system.

i could be wrong here but thats my take on this soo far and if parrot sends one for cheap then it might just be worth the 7 or 8 dollars.

You know, the problem is more than likely the implementation of the hands free within the Z1. The Z1 needs to compensate for the voice on the speakers; basically cancel it out. Not the same as noise cancelling, but close. I don't think a different microphone is going to help. Maybe marginally due to it being more directional or mounted so it doesn't "hear" the speakers as well, but the sound going in is just that... the sound going in... The system needs to subtract the unwanted portion of that sound, not the mic. The other option is to change the microphone characteristics to be half-duplex, not full. I haven't seen any settings for this though.
I understand this was pointed out already to Pioneer, so let's hope they fix it sometime soon.

Folks might also consider microphones not normally associated with automotive applications. Something like this: http://www.andreaelectronics.com/Buy/Pr ... _Array.htm

Or better yet: http://www.andreaelectronics.com/Buy/Pr ... /DA350.htm

The second one looks like it's made specifically for automotive applications. I've used the first one on my desktop PC in a noisy environment and have been very happy with the performance for VOIP applications.

i know this is an old thread.. but whatever happened to this?

has anybody tried any microphones (the parrot one or others) and had success? i updated to the Z2 using the image/unlock method (i'm pretty sure that includes the bluetooth fix) and STILL have the echo problem.. also, i keep getting complaints of muffled/poor audio quality

i have tried all different placements (visor, on the steering column, etc) with no success.. still too much background noise and lack of clarity

any suggestions?
