dsmdriver
has anyone been able to figure out how to get the z series to play avi files ?
GnatGoSplat
It can't, you have to convert to DVD.

GnatGoSplat
Nah, that would require hacking the applications and OS. Nobody has gotten that far yet and probably never will because I don't think anyone is even trying except for me, and I can't get anywhere without Platform Builder 4.2 (it is the program to build a new Windows CE OS)... not sure I could get very far even if I had it because it will take people a lot smarter than me. djmixmac
Its soooo easy just burning movie files (avi, mpg, wma, etc) into a DVD. Â
Josiah
How difficult would it be to allow it to download songs or videos to the HDD from an ipod, MP3 CD, or even DVD. I'm real bummed I have this expensive head unit that has the capability to stream movies off the hard drive, and I cannot do it.
GnatGoSplat
You can't even stream MP3's from the hard drive, why is its inability to stream videos any surprise? Â If you have an iPod, just use the A/V input.
karmad
Nah, that would require hacking the applications and OS. Â So if u got Platform Builder 4.2 u would unlock or re-write with added abilities?
GnatGoSplat
The applications would need to be re-written. The inability to play certain media isn't in there and just locked. The apps themselves were just never written with the ability in the first place.
solo224
Its soooo easy just burning movie files (avi, mpg, wma, etc) into a DVD. Â Â So you are able to play dvds that you've burned on the Z3? I haven't been able to.
garrettoomey
Yes, as long as they are in DVD movie format.
solo224
Yes, as long as they are in DVD movie format. Â Â Hmmm, I must be doing something wrong then. I convert my movies to DVD format using WinAvi and they play fine in the house, but won't read in the Z3.
GnatGoSplat
Try burning at a slower speed. Every other DVD player I have had no trouble with a disc I burned at 8x, but my Z2 wouldn't even recognize it. Even the cheap Jensen I have in my wife's car had no trouble with it. On the other hand, everything I burned at 2x plays perfectly in the Z2.
solo224
Does the Z3 only play DVD-? If so, I think that may be my problem. All of my current burned DVDs are DVD+.
GnatGoSplat
No, it doesn't care. Most of mine are + and they all work.
