bigmanca
I have sirius on this unit and was wondering how I can get both? would I need to buy the xm attachment or will they be combining the signals?
HiFiSi
You will have to get the XM tuner add-on. And you will require a separate antenna for both tuners.
bigmanca
That's kinda what I figured, but would it require a seperate subscription or would my current subscription cover both now?
HiFiSi
You'd most likely have to call sirius or XM to find that out.
bigmanca
Thanks, I'll check it out.
Derf
They will be operating same as usual for a long time. You will however be able to add exclusive Sirius programing like Howard Stern to XM for a small fee in the near future.
dvstulsa
YOU WILL NOT have to get a new tuner. All station from both companys will be carried on the others satallite. All you will have to do is add the new channels to your subscription. The merger will be complete in a couple of months.
superjet
YOU WILL need to get a another tuner if you want to recieve both. Like already mentioned, Howard and a few other things will be offered on both in the near future. Hybrid tuners are at least a year out. I highly doubt Pioneer will update the D3 to support a hybrid single tuner.
dvstulsa
AGAIN you will not need a seperate tuner. Any tuner from either service will be capable of recieving the others channels. If you dbout this call either of them or pioneer. I have done the above with all 3 and they all say the same thing. All channels will be avilalable on each service. dvstulsa
PS the Howard and a few other shows will be just as a teaser to give a sample of the extended programing avilable from the other service.
dvstulsa
PPS if you dbout any of my above statements please read this from the official press release from XM Radio As a result of the merger, SIRIUS XM Radio will also be able to offer consumers new packages in audio entertainment, including the first-ever a la carte programming option in subscription media. In addition to two a la carte options, the new packages will include: “Best of Both,†giving subscribers the option to access certain programming from the other network; discounted Family Friendly packages; and tailored packages including “Mostly Music†and “News, Talk and Sports.†The first of the new packages will be available in the early Fall. “One of the most exciting benefits of this transaction is the ability to offer subscribers the option of expanding their subscriptions to include the Best of Both services. Given the respective popularity of exclusive programming on both SIRIUS and XM, we expect many subscribers will upgrade their current subscription,†said Karmazin. “The upside potential for both consumers and shareholders is huge. Consumers have the ease of adding premier programming without purchasing a new device. For shareholders, this kind of organic growth is a key part of the company’s future and the success we expect to see,†said Karmazin.
superjet
Still not seeing where your existing tuner will have both services, only select "premier" choices. Both services are jam packed. They are already full. Your current tuner and their satelites are not capable of handling 400+ stations. If they want to add channels to one service, they would have to eliminate other channels, or condense the channels even further from what they are now. When satellite radio first started, the FCC mandated that eventually they will need to have a tuner that is capable of having both, they do have prototypes and have already been working on it, but it is still a year out until production.
