jp13
I just bought a Z1. I would like to get a rough estimate on the installation cost. I know we all live in different parts of the country, so I need to find out what people pay to have this unit installed. I'm installing the Z1, sirius tuner, ipod adapter, bluetooth adapter and the rear view camera. I will also have the unit bypassed. I don't want to be taken here in Las Vegas
drober30
With all that I would say $300 or less for install. That includes dash kit, wiring harness, bypass if needed and labor for everything else. What were you thinking it would cost?
sportsfan21
I think it would be a lot more. For my D2, which is basically the same install as the Z1 the local stereo shop charged me $235 for the D2, iPod adaptor and instead of using a wiring harness they hardwired it into my car. However, out of curiosity I asked him how much it would be for a rear view camera that I have and he wanted another $250 just for the camera! It also depends on what type of camera you have. If it requires drilling of any kind, expect a cost similiar to the above. If its just a license plate frame, it shouldn't be that expensive. If you have any skills with electronics in cars, you may want to save yourself some money and install the sirius, ipod and bluetooth adaptor yourself. Once you have the headunit installed, the others go very easily.
bikemedic
The camara is the unknown. Time should be about 4-5 hours for everthing excluding the camera. The amount of time would be dependant on the type of car of truck and the location and type of camera. The time of installs will also decrease with shops that put in a good number of NAV systems. Go with a shop that sells NAV systems and regualy installs them. They will be able to cut the time down dramaticly if they do it on a regular basis as they will know and understand where to find speed pulse and rev wires. rapayn1
That sounds about right. My installer took 4 hours to install my AVIC-Z1, the GPS antenna, microphone and the DucatiBoy Flasher circuit, at a cost of $75 per hour. It took another 7 hours and $525 to fabricate and install a custom dash kit for my AVIC-Z1 though to make it look OEM factory. :) I also paid MSRP for the AVIC-Z1. :( Oh well ... it's only money right? You only live once. I'm doing my part to stimulate the economy.
brucehulkbanner
My total install was $3500 for custom dash kit in my 1999 acura 3.5 rl. Then the z1, steering wheel control, license plate camera, external amp and subwoofer box. Mind you I bought the radio at a pioneer authorized dealer at 2250. Then the alarm was another

lnghrn4life
I can't believe that you guys are paying that much for installation. The basic installation of the Z-1 should take no longer than 1hr. The bluetooth unit is a simple plug and play part, also the Ipod Adaptor. The only items that should take any length of time is the rear view camera and dash kit (if you should need a custom one). I personally installed my Z-1 (2004 GMC) and did it within 30 mins. Now saying that I had done this kind of work for several years. I later added my rear view camera and flushed it into the tailgate handle. (Total of 1 1/2 hrs) I no longer install for the public but still have connections that do, they typically charge $150 - $200 for the installation of most indash Nav systems. Check around... jp13
Thanks for the info everyone. Because I don't have know much about car installation I think some of these places know, there like sharks with blood in the water when I walk into their shops. I've been qutoed from 700- 1200 to install all my equipment  in my 05' Toyota Sequoia. Lasvegash2 was the offer you received at 702 motoring a hook up or did you just walk in there off the street :?:
rapayn1
Everything is a ballpark figure. That is why it is called "CUSTOM" work. What is an easy $150 job for one vehicle, is a $10,000 job for another. If I add up EVERYTHING I had done to my vehicle, I spent over $9,000 and I only paid $21,500 for the vehicle. So, almost half of the purchase price of my SUV was paid in aftermarket customization work. Now my $21,500 SUV is a $31,000 SUV. I had the following installed: AVIC-Z1 Navigation Head Unit (AM/FM, CD/DVD) and Microphone Custom AVIC-Z1 dash kit DucatiBoy Flasher Viper 5900 with remote start and spare remote Pioneer GEX-P5700TV TV Tuner Escort Passport 8500 X50 hardwired radar detector Escort ZR3-Shifter Laser Jammer (front and rear) PAC SWI-PS Steering Wheel Control Interface Pioneer ND-BC1 Rear-View Camera Pioneer ND-BT1 Bluetooth Adapter Polk Audio db6500 Front and Rear Speakers Alpine MRP-M450 220W x 1 Subwoofer Amp Alpine MRP-F250 40W x 4 Car Amplifier Xantrex XPower 175 Plus DC to AC power inverter Pioneer GEX-P10XMT XM & NavTraffic Receiver Webasto Sunroof Alpine TME-710 headrest monitors (two of those) JL Audio 12" subwoofer & MDF enclosure Rear Spoiler Tinted Windows Wind Deflector Aluminum Wheels Side-Step Bars Front and Rear Splash Guards Rubberized Rear Bumper Protector Chrome Exhaust Dynamat soundproofing Assorted cables, wires, fuses, distribution block, etc. Labor, Labor, Labor!! :D :D
lasvegash2
jp 13, it was just a walk in at 702 motoring. the h2 requires a little more work than just slapping it in. you have to dremel out plastic inside the dash to make the z1 fit flush with the dash. i am also having the bose, onstar and steering wheel controls work with the z1 which requires a little work. the sirrus and bluetooth is basically plug in play. the camera is going to require a little work because i have the one that goes in the middle of the upper marker lights in the rear. they said it takes about 6 hours to have everything working exactly how i want. so if i was going to do it, it would probably take me a good 8-10 hours, and to me its worth spending $450 and having everything working correctly after i just spent $2600 on all the hardware. cntrylvr79
Actually interfacing the bose and onstar is plug and play too. It's simply wiring up a harness and plugging it in. The steering wheel control, depending on which one you're getting, takes at most an hour to put in and program, an that's being generous.
lasvegash2
i bought the pac interfaces for the bose/onstar and pac steering wheel interface made for the pioneer radio. has anyone did a h2 with the hardware that i am installing and if so, how long did it take you. cntrylvr79
Honestly, I think I might have spent 2 hours actually working on the truck. If it came down to it though, I probably could have gotten it done in an hour. But I don't like working that fast since the likelihood of damaging, or screwing something up is a lot higher. How long will I tell a customer it's going to take me? Normally 4 to 6 hours. Why you might ask, so I won't have the customer breathing down my neck number 1. Number 2 when I call them 2 hours after they drop their car off they think I'm the man for getting their car done faster.
