gdam Posted August 30, 2008 Report Share Posted August 30, 2008 hi guys just wondering if there is a map update for the z2 we built a house in 2005 and it does not register on my nav system. i read in the forums about a z2 to z3 upgrade i sure hope you don't have to go through this to do a map upgrade .thanking you guys in advance. root9 Posted September 10, 2008 Report Share Posted September 10, 2008 Don't bother with the update I did the update thinking I would get streets and buildings that wern't showing up on the Z1, but still doesn't work I'm right now looking around for anyone who has informaiton on changing the navagation software with something that might work. Pioneer maps are the worst for using it as directions. Its true, the maps suck, I paid for the update thinking I would get a newer maps, or something different, but everything is the same. This is what I wrote in another post "I'll agree, the worst navi system out there I can't find any streets that were built within the last 3 years Yesterday was that put me over the edge, I was looking for a bank and typed in the name, it showed the closest one around the conner. So I went to it. As I'm pulling up to where the map shows it's supposed to be, I find myself under power lines and the closest intersection is residential area, not a single store, strip mall, not even anything that looks close to industrial. The worst navigation I've ever used" This isnt the only time,, I've also tried finding the quickest route but the navi still routes me 30 mins out of the way, And even when I tried selecting different routes, all the routes were showing the same. Pioneer doesn't make the maps, nor do they farm the POI data... your beef is with one or more of the © companies on the splash screen that decided your shit neighborhood wasn't worth mapping. The maps have been updated in every iteration between Z1/2/3, and the interfacing programs have undergone some significant rewriting since Z1 as well. The rerouting and ETA blow. They blow hard. Did I prove how bad the unit is and the only way you could answer is by trying to fit in a lame joke? GnatGoSplat Posted September 12, 2008 Report Share Posted September 12, 2008 I never had a single problem over thousands of miles of travel with my D1 updated to CNDV-70MTP and I can't imagine my Z2 w/Z3 image will be any worse (haven't gone on any trips yet). It does show just about every POI accurately in my area though. If you don't like it, why not do something about it? Buy a Kenwood w/Garmin nav. I've heard its maps are much more accurate, although its nav display looks ugly and cheesy like the old Commodore 64 days. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I had to find a gas station and marked the house I just left as my finish point. When I was on my way back to the house I followed the map, but noticed I wasn't on streets I remembered driving on from when I left. So I made my map larger to see which route I was driving on, and the GPS was taking me about 1 km out of the way. I pulled a U-turn and look a left and was back at the house in less than 2 mins The unit sucks,, I think I am goin to find something different, the only reason I'm looking on the site is to see if their is any way I can change the mapping. I agree, I had a Kenwood before I bought the AVIC Z2, and the Maps were pretty accurate, but I also agree, they are very cheesy looking. I favor the AVIC over the Kenwood, by a long shot.
