defjux921
I got my z3 installed yesterday, and my installer said he did what he usually does to bypass the z series but he said he had only done it for older units. See attached picture for the message i get when starting the unit. Would I get this message if he did the old bypass? Should I give him this link? http://www.sminntech.com/z1flash.html#newbypass or is there something else i should tell him?
garrettoomey
Your installer did not do the bypass correctly. It appears that he did not move the mute wire to the correct location in connector 2, or did not ground it at all. Print the bypass instructions and take it back to him. defjux921
thanks for the quick replies... ok i sent him the instructions but he promises me that this is exactly what he did... is there anything else that might need to be done?
garrettoomey
No. He will need to make sure that the wire he moved is SECURELY attached to the connector. If the yellow/black wire that was moved is not properly grounded, then you will get the error in your photo above. No other cause...
defjux921
ok, after doing some more searching, and since my installer told me he did the correct bypass, i tried hitting the reset button and it worked. i guess he didnt kno u had to do that or forgot... but its all bypassed now... my next question - speed pulse in connection info says 0.. if i have him connect that will it break the bypass? and is it even important? Hyperite
connecting speed wire is recommended.
defjux921
it won't ruin the bypass?
garrettoomey
No.
defjux921
ARGH! my happiness didn't last too long... after a few more miles of driving around i got the parking break error message...
garrettoomey
Have your installer check the connections to make sure the pin is completely seated in the connector...
bongus
From everything I read on this thread, it appears to be an installation problem. Connecting the speed sensor wire will not effect the bypass. Connecting the wire will give you more precise nav functionality. Uses vehicle speed and satellite positioning to improve nav. djmixmac
As a rule of thumb, if possible, I always watch and supervise the install process from start to finish and check everything before leaving the shop. Take it back. Explain the bypass and have them check their work. FYI.
