SD usability on the 700?

Recommended Posts

I did a search for a review but couldn't find any info on how well the SD slot works. I've got an iPod Touch and iPhone ironically enough but don't intend to use those unless my son is watching video.

With that said I think the bulk of my music is going onto one SD card (about a 1000 songs). How do you feel the 700 manages the use of this feature in the sense that, is it easy to control songs/titles/albums?

Thanks,

Chris

I am using a 32gb SD card that hold almost my hole music collection. It works great with no issues.

32 gig....whole music collection? I think my entire collection can fit on a gig, maybe 2 if I download all my old CD's.

I didn't articulate myself very well but are there any foibles or unexpected glitches while navigating the SD? For example, now my ipod plays on my factory stereo but is...sluggish to respond to commands (when the connection works). Not really a complaint so much as a hope it works better than Subarus interface.

the SD interface is pretty strait forward; just make sure your ID3 tags are set and seperate your music by folders according to artist and its all a done deal

I fear I've opened a can of worms (for me at least). My computer literacy is limited to drag and click.

I'm pretty sure I understand the folders comment but am lost on how to make sure my ID3 tags are set. What does that mean?

If wjatever MP3 playing program on your computer (i.e., let's say Windows Media Player) shows artist/album/title info, then tags are ste. If it doesn't you need to enter them... How to do it depends on the program you use...

Ok, my media player distributes these by artist, then album like mentioned. If I have a problem I'll come in here...thanks

You should be fine then, I think...

I saw elsewhere on the board that using an SDHC card was OK, however when I bought one to upload the music too, my computer just freezes up when I load it in. If I go to my I drive where the disc should be located, I click on it and nothing happens. Just the "wait, I'm doing something" circle and it doesn't go away.

Should I have got the 2gig simple SD card?

I had to upgrade the driver for my SD drive (actually one of those that supports 6 different formats) before my computer would recognize my 8 GB SD card.

After that all went well and I used Windows Media Player to manage the content on the SD card. The F700 plays it just fine, and I no longer use CDs or my Zune in the car now.

I too have one of the multiple card drives. I'm going to try and trade back in at Radio Shack for a 2 gig, non HC card to see if that works.

If that doesnt work Ill a different driver for the current drive. Haha.

Thanks

i have found that both the usb and sd are useless when playing podcasts & audiobooks since this deck doesn't remember where you left. so when listening to a podcast of 2 hours but switch off the engine after 1 hour (my travel time) it just starts over again from the beginning.

but now with an old first generation ipod nano i'm happy.
