F90 affected by Canadian Cold

Recommended Posts

Since the temperatures have dropped below 0c (32F, for my American friends) my F90 occasionally starts up with the Antitheft/Password screen.

Not really a problem, but still rather annoying to say the least.

I am not sure if this is a result of 2.0 being installed, since it wasnt that cold at the time of upgrading.

Coincidence?

Anybody else?

T.I.A.

Are you sure that your battery and or connections are OK? I work on cars for a living, and the starter motor takes a lot of power from the battery on start up, especially in the winter. If your battery is not up to snuff, there will be a moment of low voltage to anything that has power going to it. The voltage to the f90 may drop to a level low enough to make it think that the power has been disconnected to it. Just a thought hope this helps.

I work on cars too (Remote Starter Specialist). I am aware of the voltage drop that occurs when a vehicle starts, but if that were the case my remote starter would also fail to work at the same time.

Thanks for the input, chicken999.

Maybe the wiring harness module has gone bad from the constant hot-cold. Possibly opened up a solder joint on the circuit board...

Keep in mind that most well designed automotive electronics will work down to a battery voltage of 7V or so. The Pioneer seems to crap out at anything below 10V. I added a small NiCd helper battery pack to mine. It keeps the voltage to the Pioneer at 12V or more while the starter is engaged.
