sportsfan21
Is the text to speech technology of the Z1 a software feature or a hardware feature? If its loaded onto the harddrive, would there be a way to make the D1/D2 have this feature?

sportsfan21
Feel free to elaborate :) ..... Is it 'no' because it is made possible because of the hardware? Or is it 'no' because there isn't a way to take the info off the harddrive and put it onto a disc that would function in the D1/D2?
cntrylvr79
How about a mixture of the 2. parts of the text 2 speach are hardware based and a lot of the info is on the hd.

I was thinking maybe if it was a software thing then when Pioneer released the new maps that using them in the D1/D2 would give it text-to-speech.
GnatGoSplat
Maybe if next year's D3/N4 support text-to-speech and still use the same hardware, then it'll be a possibility. Otherwise, probably no luck. The current architecture is getting kind of dated though. Pioneer has been using the same CPU, ASIC, etc. for all the AVICs (except Z1) since the 2001 model AVIC-9DVD. baysurfer
Actually, the TTS (text-to-speech) engine that Pioneer uses is entirely software based.
