Australian Map Update (R17 Maps Page 23)

Recommended Posts

900bt, AUS version

map update works great, many thanx to the author! I really appreciate the bloody dog being replaced with the female voice, beeping not cuting off music, soooo much more 21st century :-)

TMC seems to never lock on a station though, it did lock quickly with the stock software. Now it sort of has 80-90% signal on one tation, but always gives up with a few secs and displays 'no signal', even though the indicator is going over 80%. (on manual tuning this is stable, on auto it just scans through a few times and gives up within seconds)

The other MODs of the MAP screen are very good and again much appreciated. I found the displayed "current speed" has some redraw issues while stationary, on occasions.

Had anyone the TMC problem?? Or have I mixed up something (like the gtimatts data.zip with the OZ one :-)

thanx

thanx for sharing, had a feeling I stuffed somehing up with the data.zip.

I have to correct the earlier post, that the speed indicator doesn't update correctly in he gtimat's MOD, it is actually the altitude digits, it seems the old value doesn't get cleared and the new sits on top, eventually it ges cleared, I wish someone told me where to look, I would find time to try to fix this...

All of GTIMatt's mods are well listed in the data.zip files (use WinRAR to access). Just post on the GTIMatt's thread and he will surely help. He was a really nice bloke and helped me set up the kph modification which he then rolled into one data.zip

Just to Explain how the TMC signal meter works.

Is shows the signal strength of the data stream not the station signal strength. The problem with the auto tune is that SUNA do not have the signal on when they are not sending data. Thats why the meter goes up and down a lot. When it is very low the tuner times out. This causes it to start scanning for a new TMC station. The result of theis is you loose TMC updates because it keeps scanning. That's why I did the manual tune mod.

On my Mod I also got rid of the Tuner Enabled message and put in the tuner status. You will notice that once locked on it will display as CA-TMC. That means it is locked onto the TMC signal. CA-TMC is the data type SUNA are using. You will also notice that you have "CA-TMC (No Key)" displayed. This is because Pioneer have not included the subscription data on your unit. Probably because SUNA is not supported till the MAP Update.

The reason We have only been getting Major Road issues is because we don't have the key. I don't know about other city's but SUNA in Sydney are now not sending any data that does not need the key. Hence you unit will lock on but no longer get traffic data displayed. In Sydney they started the about 10 days ago. This has put a pause in my next release. You can go back a few posts to see what's in that. Added to that I have added a button to enter the subscription (if you pay for it). Before anyone asks you cant use a key from another unit. The key has both model encoded in it. If someone pays for SUNA on an avic maybe but I don't have that as yet to test.

We will have to wait and see if Pioneer include the key in the official map update or make us pay extra for SUNA.

I'm working on getting around this before then so bear with me on that.

On the Alt. It is map dependant. IE the data comes from the MAP not the GPS so you will see issues. This was covered in Matts thread.

Cheers

thanx 34BY151, you have answered all my questions way above expectations :-)

I thought this will be some sort of unit/subsciption key missing, thus copying my original unit keys over the one in your release, but got the same "CA-TMC (No Key)" if the signal is god enough. I just got the unit less then a month ago, so thought for that "day robbery" price they would include this "sometimes available" SUNA :-(

Sound is great, credit to Pioneer for that as always, but no NTFS support is a shocker, since other WindowsCE machines have it. (thin clients running ce 5 and 6)

On top, they should hire people like you, to design the map interface for them :-) the original sucks more than some El Cheepo GPSes out there... (and hire me to look for bugs and flaws :-) ) Credit for the night version though, that is very nice, but the day is not up to the price tag.

To the key, I wonder if there will be some keygens or map unlocks, or rather EZRider hacks that remove the key, as most of PocketPC software have (tomtom,mio,igo,destinator,route66, etc. I have tested all of them on my PDA prior to this AVIC toy)

One should be able to get a decent unit without hax and MODs :-) at least from Pioneer... The world is far from perfect :-)

Are you sure about that? I've never seen a WinCE device with NTFS support...

I am going to double check that. I know CE 3 and 4 don't have ntfs for sure. Haven't had a 5 this year and need to get my hands on that HP t5530 again (CE 6) to make sure I am not misleading on this. :?

If Apple can have ntfs support, on top Parragon made a full implementation (more than 4 kb blocks and full security, why wouldn't it be on CE 5 or 6, I wonder... or just custom implemented for such a great company as Pioneer is, this is not the $300 cheapo unit, but one would expect Nokia to put a radio tuner on every phone and yet it doesn't happen.

Am I too demanding, or do the big companies just don't give a ... :-)

I don't think Microsoft is pushing NTFS on CE devices, because while a far better file system than FAT, it is more CPU intensive than FAT. And generally, CE devices do not have as much storage as desktop systems.

FAT32 is sufficient for storage needs of something like AVIC... It's Pioneer's brain-dead interface to mass storage devices that is a problem here...

I agree, who will have a Divx of more than 4 GB in continuous size :-) therefore fat32 is plenty and they made sure you cannot use the usb/sd for everything, that is definitely brain dead.

Has anyone MODed their unit within the initial trial of SUNA ?

How did you go?

Again, GREAT map interface MOD thanx to 34by151 & GTIMatt, I love it every day more and more, thanx again!! :-)

Hi all,

Thanks 34by151 for your magnificent work (and all others whose mods were included in the download). I've put it in and the maps and voice work perfectly. However where I used to be able to pick up TMC information such as road work / accident etc and see this in the traffic screen and on the map, I now see nothing. The unit is telling me it is connected to 104.3 (the station I have always auto connected to to get suna info) but that there is no traffic information.

Does anyone have any idea as to where I've gone wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Clutrz

Do I need all 3 of these? Or are they links to the same thing?

Thanks.

You'll need them all, plus the other links further on in the posts to get the updated data.zip and phoneme stuff.

cheers,

Clutrz

Thanks Clutrz,

What's the best way to combine them? I'm assuming I need to.

Cheers,

Linc
