MIGGERNAUGHT
so this is kinda weird, i bought a new car and moved all my shit over to it, including backup cam, ipod connector, and xm with nav traffic. any ideas for what wires I should check to see what might be causing a drain? its been so long i dont remember what all the wires do now unfortunatly. I also have Garret's upgrade from a year ago on my had and i love it you should all get it.
garrettoomey
Yellow and Red are power wires. Does the unit shut off when you turn off the ignition key? Do you have a backup camera?
MIGGERNAUGHT
Yeah i have a backup camera, and when i shut off the ignition the head unit does shut off. I am willing to install a switch somewhere but I dont want to be losing my settings every time I flip it on..
CaptainInsaneO
How do you know... or rather, what makes you think your headunit is the culprit?
MIGGERNAUGHT
I just had the battery replaced and the dealer said it was the culprit. I believe it since i had the same problem with the last car i took the deck out of.
MIGGERNAUGHT
any idea which wire i could put a inline switch on but still save settings? is that possible?
CaptainInsaneO
I honestly don't have an answer for you. I'm not knowledgeable enough on this to give you an answer that will get you anywhere. There are a LOT of smart people on this forum though so I'm sure someone will be able to help you with this. MIGGERNAUGHT
i figured it out! the backup cam for some reason had the accessory and power leads on the same one. I dont know why I did that when I installed it. but the draw dropped from .3333 amps to .0900 amps so i think we are good now
CaptainInsaneO
Nicely done! Do you think you had it that way on the old car too and just did it the same?

Glad you found the problem!!
Sinkoumn
I am having the same problem as you - same accessories too. I'm just a little confused from your post and wanted to double check - "the backup cam for some reason had the accessory and power leads on the same one" are you saying that when you installed it you connected the backup-cameras accs and power wire to the same wire on your car? And to fix it you just rewired it so one went to a constant 12v+, and the other to an ign/accessory wire?
