just blaze
I've seen mixed posting as to the 8000NEX having detachable face in the specs. From what I saw earlier, only the 4000NEX has it. Can anyone confirm? Thanks
tekki
No it does not
just blaze
No it does not Thank you so much for the quick reply. Unfortunate because that was sort of a big feature to me. Hope the 4000NEX will be up to par and be a sufficient unit. Thanks again
Shackleton
Get the 4000 and add the nav unit or not its the best version of the nex imo
Bigchief
I believe the 6000 (six not eight) also has a detatchable panel on it. The screen itself isn't detatchable, just the plate to the left of the screen with the buttons on it. Just to confirm though, the 8000 is not detatchable at all and I'm pretty sure the 7000 isn't either.
just blaze
Thanks for all the replies. I was initially going to get the 4000NEX but took an interest for the 8000NEX because of the screen being much more bright and vibrant even though it's the same resolution. I really didn't need the built in NAV necessarily. Just hoping the 4000 has a nice enough screen. I'm also waiting on Car Play like everyone else and could probably just use Apple maps even though it is quirky for when I need nav.
tickerguy
The 4000's brightness is more than acceptable to me. In fact I'm glad I can turn it WAY down when the illumination lead is energized (e.g. lights are on) as otherwise it would be too bright at night-time. As it is it works fine. It's a resistive screen as opposed to capacitive so the front is plastic as opposed to glass. This means it's more-easily damaged but in a car it should be fine, since it's not in your pocket. Multi-touch isn't available on a resistive screen but for a head unit it doesn't really matter. I like it -- I'd like a bit more responsiveness but that's not the screen, it's the CPU power. There's a bit of a lag -- not bad (especially compared to some other brands like cough-Kenwood-cough!) but it definitely could use a bit more horsepower.
Shackleton
+1 for the 4000 I havent noticed any lag
just blaze
Thanks again for the input everyone. Going to pick up the 4000 some time in the next week!
joemamma1954
+1 on 4000NEX for me too. You will not be disappointed either way. I like detachable face plate and remote control. You can always add nav, or use appradio nav. All good.
tickerguy
I have a 4000 in my Mazda 6 (just installed it recently) and love it. Excellent device.
joemamma1954
I was going to post a question about the nex screen interchangeability with the avx4000 head unit. but the point is mute. Would be cool if someone could replace the resistive screen with the capacitive.
Shackleton
Cant happen hardware and software are different
