ranger098
When i turn the volume up fairly high (like over half way) on my NEX4000 and i dont have any music playing i can hear a whining coming through the speakers. Anyone else notice this? It doesnt happen on any other source, and is a contant sound rather than a sound that changes with the engine reving. It does, however kinda sound like ground interference. It cant be though cuz the sound is only through BT, all other sources sound perfect. If you guys can confirm if this is normal or not that would be great!

Multitask
Could be a bad ground, or exposed wire. Does it get louder or higher pitch when you accelerate? If so then it's the noise from the alternator. It could be bleeding through the radio, or through the charger.

Multitask
missed that... I think it's still static coming from somewhere... maybe a bad link with the BT in the phone or radio.... Based on your post, should I assume that you tested and didn't allow the phone to connect to your HU? and also tried it with another phone?
joemamma1954
I think you are correct, phone may be picking up the static, not necessarily the head unit.
EricVII
What kind of phone do you have?
ranger098
I have an iphone 5. I have not tried it with another phone, and i dont think i can test this without a phone connected, i think it just greys out the BT option. Ill check that though. Reallly hoping my HU is ok cuz i installed it myself which i think voids the warranty....
ranger098
Yall should try to re-create this on your nex 4000's... it took me a while to realize it was even happening. you need to turn the volume way up (like 3/4) to hear it, and there cannot be any music playing. If music is playing or the volume is low then you cannot hear any whine.....
EricVII
They have a firmware coming out soon for an issue I am having with my playing my iPhone 5 through the iPod touch. I am sure that will help with your issue as well. I think pioneer and the apple products are having issues right now. Just with some ppl not all.
kadernal
Is your phone plugged in and charging while you listen?
EricVII
It happens with any apple product when it is plugged in. I know I turned my Bluetooth off to see and it still happens
ranger098
My phone is not charging, it is just connected by BT only. Seems like a bad quality wireless connection.
rjjone2
I am having this issue as well on my 4100. Only on bluetooth. And sounds like a very high pitched electronics hum. Does not change with engine rev. I listen to a lot of podcasts and at first thought it was a recording issue on their end but then found out I hear the noise on whatever I listen to. I can make it less noticeable by changing the eq setting. Goes away as soon as I hit pause on the unit. I do not hear it on other sources. maybe it has to do with the sound enhancer. I toggled it off and the noise got slightly louder. But at level 2 I can still hear it.
PaisanNYC
I experienced this one. My phone is a Nexus 6, and it was not plugged in or charging at the time. It only happened while using Pandora via BT. The sound was a little lower, and there was a high pitched whine when i turned up the volume. It did not happen on HD radio (AM or FM). It did not change pitch when accelerating. Has not happened since. Now it sounds louder and no whine. Strange.
