9to5mac: "Apple quietly removes promise of 2014 CarPlay availability"

Recommended Posts

Earlier this morning, Pioneer UK also tweeted this...

"@PioneerUK: @Kimberley92_ For iPhone it's called CarPlay, were sorry but obstacles out of our hands, have pushed CarPlay closer to an autumn release"

That sounds like confirmation that the delay is on Apple's end, but as you said, it sounds like Apple is almost there! Unfortunately CarPlay has all the other bug fixes held up too. At least Pioneer UK is talking a bit... More than I can say about Pioneer USA.

I'm not sure I believe the "out of our hands" part. Sounds to me like Pioneer is trying to shift the blame. Most likely (and this is just my opinion), Pioneer keeps submitting a flawed update and Apple keeps telling them to go back and fix what isn't working. Then, Pioneer cries, "Apple won't let us release it!"

Apple's Carplay page still lists that it will be available "on select new cars in 2014"; it just says so near the top of that page, rather than buried farther down. https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/

Other than Audi, Mazda, and the seven brands in the Fiat group being removed from the list of nameplates promising Carplay soon, nothing has changed. http://www.cultofmac.com/297361/carplay-still-track-arrive-2014/
