I've seen this thing before. It appears that it takes your wired control and converts the signals from it into a IR signal, like a TV remote which is then pointed at the face of the Z1. Is that correct?
What I want to do hard wire the remote on the steering wheel that goes to the stock head unit and splice them into the wired remote input on the Z1. has anyone done that?

Thanks,
Ray

You are thinking of the SWI-X, that's the IR one and there are more controls available and it will work with any radio with an IR receiver and a remote. Marauder had this installed in his (or her) Merc. Marauder.

I was recommending the SWI-PS which was designed for Sony and Pioneer radios and it's hardwired into the back of the Z1. It connects to your steering wheel control wire(s) which used to go to your old radio, it goes through the SWI-PS and then there is a wire from that to the back of the Z1 and it changes your car's radio control signal to one meant for the Z1. It works pretty decently.

You can see mine tie wrapped to my duct in this picture (just above the radio in this picture, it's actually to the left of the radio in real life, but in this picture you can see it "above" the radio):
What about the swi-x are there any features lost or gained by using this IR as opposed to the swi-ps?
I can't remember what they were, but yed, the SWI-PS only has 9 things you can control with any button you have on your steering wheel. I don't remember what they were but it's like: Vol +, Vol -, track +, track -, source change, etc.. With the swi-x, it's programmable with whatever remote you have, you could program it to turn on your television or the air conditioner in your bed room if you had a remote for it.

With the SWI-PS, can you control voice activation from the steeringwheel and the back button?
Nope. It's also kinda laggy for me on a 2006 Civic.
Mine works very well on my Aviator.

By the way, I've talked with both Pioneer and PAC to see if we could get things like the voice activation and answering the phone through the hard wired SWI-PS. PAC is willing to look at it and add it if the Pioneer unit will accept the command through the hard wired port. Last I heard from Pioneer (yesterday) they were asking the engineers.
