thais0n
I am switching from a Kenwood DDX-7015 to the AVIC-D3. With my Kenwood I used the Terk XM tuner (XMD1000) with a Kenwood adaptor. My question is if I used the Terk XM tuner and get the Terk Pioneer adaptor (XMDPIO110), will I still have all of the same functionality as if I were to just have the Pioneer XM Tuner (GEX-P920XM)? I have read that with some Pioneer models not all functionality is supported (like not being able to store presets). The Terk is definitely a better option in terms of pricing (and I already have the antenna installed and mounted in my truck), but I want to make sure I get full functionality. Thanks guys! T
they are the same price you on the terk you need the tuner and the translation cable. and with my experience, they should work the same but there are times that the terk piece doesn't work at all.
thais0n
I have the tuner already, just need the translation cable which is about $50. The Pioneer tuner is $100. Anyone else have first hand experience?
whtcrxghst
Terks often don't work on A/V and Navi models. They also don't have a pass through for p-bus so you won't be able add a changer
thais0n
I just talked to a Crutchfield customer service rep and he confirmed that the Terk Pioneer adaptor is compatible with the D3, and it will provide the same functionality as the Pioneer XM Tuner. He got this information from an updated compatibility chart from Terk.
action
Maybe I'm missing something, but the pioneer adapter is $49.00 right now on crutchfield Where as the XMD1000 is $49.00 and $49.00 more for the adapter. Isn't it cheaper to just go with the pioneer?
thais0n
Huh, I didnt notice that the pioneer adaptor was on sale there. I was assuming it was still $99. I will just go with that then.
PaisanNYC
terk = crap...always!
tim1086
I have it on the D2 because i also use it in my other car with an alpine. It will work fine but presets will not work and your display is limited to one part of the XM data at a time. There is no graphic display. You can direct tune by using the number buttons on the screen but i barely ever use it anymore because it sucks.
cntrylvr79
terk = crap...always! This is directly from the xm god you should listen to him.
naplesbill
One more thing to note is that the Terk does not allow you to use both XM and Sirius modules at the same time. I realize most people don't care about this but it is important to note.
cntrylvr79
Strange, I've used the terk xm and sirius tuners at the same time before without a problem. Then again they were hooke up to a normal radio, not an avic or other screen.
naplesbill
When I tried connecting a Terk XMD1000 w/Pioneer adapter and a DEI PNR-SIR1 at the same time the Sirius tuner would work for about 5 minutes then automatically switch over to XM.
PaisanNYC
Just goes to show how much of garbage terk is. I understand there used to be a cost savings factor for people getting the terk tuner, but now that crutchfield has the GEX-P20XM for $49, better to get technology that was made by Pioneer to integrate perfectly. thais0n
Based on the feedback here, I bought the Pioneer tuner from CF - cant beat $49. Its on backorder, but I can wait.
