Z1 Direction wrong constantly

Recommended Posts

I just installed the Z1 2 days ago and everything is good, but the arrow direction is pointing off into the distance rather then along the road. I have done the correction and everything will be fine for a while and then I will be going down the road sideways and sometimes tracking next to the road sideways. I have hooked up the reverse line, but not the VSS. Not sure if this will clear up in time or if there is a problem. The GPS is located on the dash and I have all or almost all the satalite signal. Any help is appreciated.

The reason that I didn't hook it up was because I contacted Pioneer and the guy said that the VSS is not really needed unless you go through alot of tunnels and or other obstructions. As I don't have satalite reception issues I figured I would try it without. I guess that I won't be listining to pioneer anymore.

the z1 doesnt work as well without the vss as the d3 does. hook it up

Wrong! The Z1 works perfectly without the VSS. As with any GPS navigation equipment. Over a year of use and never one issue.

Here is a question for you to ponder... With a portable Nav e.g. Garmin, AVIC-S1 etc. Do you plug it in you head so it can tell how fast you are walking?!?

Why would you not hook it up? Laziness? Lets think about this logically, Navigation relies HEAVILY on where you are. Wouldn't it stand to reason that knowing when the car is moving (ie the VSS) might be a good thing?

The VSS is only used when the GPS is unable to locate its position i.e. receive satellite signals. Tunnels, tree cover, cities with large building, etc.

If resetting your Z1 doesn’t work then I would think that it’s defective. If the arrow points in the wrong direction then it is having difficulty detecting the direction of movement. It doesn’t matter how fast you are going, it should be able to tell if you moved from point A to point B.

tj for christ sake we know that it can work without the vss.

but y in the hell did pioneer include this "useless" wire if it doesnt help unless theres no gps.

TO ALL STUPID LAZY PEOPLE. HOOK UP THE DAMN WIRE IF YOUR CAR HAS IT. I KNOW I KNOW ITS REALLY HARD AND TAKES ALL OF 20 MINUTES EVEN FOR THE WORST OF CARS.

ive never had any issues with avics pointing the wrong direction or just not bieng acurate........ i wonder y that is hmmmmmmmmm

sorry im not ina good mood this mourning

  • 2 months later...

im going to revive this post cuz i think its funny now.

My boy, who owns a 2006 ram megacab has just left for cali today ona 22 hour road trip. he calls me and tells me his arrow is pointed the wrong way. he says completely backwards. of course while hes on his route that i helped him program it keeps telling him to turn cuz it thinks hes going 80 down the highway backwards. i had him hit the reset button. then i had him "modify current location" wit the arrows and he said that fixed it... until now when he calls at 1:30 in tha mourn to tell me its doing it again. this is the one car that i didnt hook up vss or rev. these trucks need an adapter to get vss and i chose to be cheap. i had his clear his 3D status so well see ik that wurks when he calls me at 2:00

i should take my own advice

The VSS wire is NOT necessary, and you will have an extremely hard time finding them on SEVERAL CARS... for instance any new chrysler.. the VSS is CAN BUS, and pulses at 72,000. 95% of the nav units out there don't recognize this amount of pulses... and either dont work, or the unit sees the pulses as double and reports incorrect speed.

so its not being lazy, its being realistic...

for those that reallly reeallly want to go through the nightmare of hooking up a VSS wire on a car that doesnt have a standard VSS wire.. you can try.

Rostra. they make wheel sensors and that type of stuff to give you a vss. however it will require you mounting sensors on your axel or drvie shaft...

good luck

also... you may want to check your installation angle setting on the Z1.

the "angle" they are talking about is NOT if hte radio is pitched, but the sides of the radio being parallel with the doors of your car (while closed)...

the back of the Z1/Z2 MUST be facing the front of your car.

So basically. the only reason you would change this is if your radio is angled toward or away from the driver... Like in an Hummer H1... you dash being angled vertically... like in a 99 maxima... wont make a difference.(except in the angular degree in the map display)..

good luck
