fotomkr
I am starting to see firmware updates for the 2015 models enabling the one cable solution. Does anyone know if this is going to apply to the current NEX line up? It would be great to get rid of the stupid Apple HDMI adapter.
Pjrm68
Pretty sure the press release said that the current NEX models would NOT be getting this update, unfortunately.

So the NEX models are sold as AppRadio compatible, but the 5000 doesn't have an HDMI port, doesn't make sense.

donmontalvo
For the 5000, wouldn't you use the RGB port with the adapter for USB/VGA? Ahh, thanks, I wasn't aware that was a possibility. I guess the problem is I have my USB/Lightning cable connected in the center console of my 2014 Honda CR-V. To have that alternate wiring done would mean shuttling my iPhone 6 Mini between the center console and the glove box. I hoped AppRadio would work with Bluetooth (so I only have to disconnect the USB/Lightning cable), or through the USB/Lightning cable (not a possible given how CarPlay hijacks that port). I guess I'll keep holding out for CarPlay 1.1 or 2.0.
Jayeffect
I really want to buy this unit but I have a few questions. I want to know if I can hook up my iPhone 6 to the first USB port and my iPod classic to the second USB port? Thank you.

donmontalvo
Yes. I had the shop run USB port 2 into my glovebox, with 3' of slack ($20). It sits in there loose, never thought to mount it, but it can be if you like. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-LOCHJ3qnxPJ/p_541USBCBL/PAC-USB-Extension-Cable.html
Jayeffect
Great! Also how does my unit charge if I'm using app radio with the hdmi and the apple adapter?
9512tacoma
Great! Also how does my unit charge if I'm using app radio with the hdmi and the apple adapter? The apple hdmi adapter has a lightning port so you can run a lightning cable to a usb port or a cig/lighter adapter to keep your iphone charged.
