  1. Another forum member is a pioneer authorized dealer he stated there were significant hardware changes to the new NEX units that have android auto. I wonder if these new versions might have the wi fi capability for a future update. Pioneer has not updated the manuals on these units yet but I figure if this can be added via a firmware update they will let us know like they did last year with the update for wired car play.
  2. Wow, i did not see this coming for several years. I have been holding off buying a new NEX unit trying to figure out how to get a very clean look with all the cables required for car play, app radio, usb, aux etc.. At least this will eliminate one of the extra cables. What can you say it is technology and it keeps getting better. This might be all the hold up with some of the auto manufacturers knowing that the wireless mode is coming and they held off putting it into the new cars. I figured the lightning cable approach was due to battery drain and a seamless experience.
  3. Is there any real significant changes to the hardware on the 5000/5100 or 6000/6100. I read pioneer's website and the screen has some changes. From what i have read the screen in the 8000 is not nearly as good as say your iphone screen. If there are no real changes I will probably try and purchase a 6000 at a discounted price once the 6100 is available for sale.
  4. Well when you look at the specs on pioneers website it says it can read from SD but it does not say there is a slot for SD. The 5100/6100 did not get android auto either so it is carplay and appradio only.
  5. I have been looking at the 6000 or 6100. The difference is a better screen (which is questionable), a remote, and 3d maps on the 6100 but you lose the micro sd slot in the front. I am looking at the costs more than anything, the micro sd slot is nice to have but not necessary so if the 6000 goes on clearance and the price drops to hopefully $500 I will buy it instead of the 6100.
  6. Do they still require all the adapters for app radio mode etc?
  7. I don't think carplay will work through the hdmi adapter from apple.
  8. The apple hdmi adapter has a lightning port so you can run a lightning cable to a usb port or a cig/lighter adapter to keep your iphone charged.
  9. When I go to the app description in the App Store it does not show the 1 cable connectivity as in the description as above.
  10. has anyone upgraded their app radio live app on iPhone to the latest version and see if it helps with all the iOS8 issues with app radio mode? I keep thinking if Pioneer is not going to support their apps to the latest version of iOS each year then might as well go with apple car play since that will update on the iPhone each year and hopefully is more future proof than app radio.
  11. So basically for app radio mode you have to use the hdmi adapter and plug a lightning cable from that to usb 1. If you want to use car play you have to unplug that connection and plug a lightning cable directly into usb 1. I was really hoping I could switch between the two interfaces but I guess not. Thanks for the info.
  12. Will Apple Car play work through the apple hdmi digital adapter? To change between that and app radio mode do you go into setting and just change from hdmi to usb?
