TJB30I
Guys I have been struggling with my Avic D3 to import a custom background. My installer can't even get this to work on his own D3 so it can't be just me. Basically the instructions tell you to create a Pictures directory on the root drive of your CD or DVD, place JPG files into that directory and to have a minimum size of data residing on the disk depending on wether it is a DVD or CD. Tried this 10 different ways on a CR-R and a CR-RW and every time the D3 tells me it can't find the Pictures directory. The Pictures directory clearly exists, JPG files are located within and I have tons of data on that disk. Tried renaming the Pictures directory to see if it was case sensitive, removed the plural etc and nothing works. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
IvanRaide
I have definitely done this, I've replaced all three pictures. Your steps seem right, make a directory called PICTURES in the root of the disc. Maybe make sure that the disk is standard ISO and not something like UDF. Also, make sure the pictures are 8.3 characters format, but it really should have worked. I used a CD-RW but maybe you should try different media, (like a + or - disc), depending one which is not working. To make sure I had enough data on the disk I just took some random file that was 3megs big and stuck it in the root directory. It is supposed to be PICTURES plural, so that part is right. Did you finalize the disc, (not a multi session disc)
VBLUE42
Worked just fine for me. I only have 1.7 meg of pics in my folder. No filler data was needed.
TJB30I
This is what customer service told me today. How much of this is true is anyone's guess: - You have to have filler data equal to 100mb in size. The filler data has to be in a PDF or Word document format (i.e. can't use sounds files etc). I had been using sound files as filler data so this might be my problem. - The Pictures directory is case sensitive with a capital P and lowercase the rest (seems odd that it matters) - Recommended JPG structure is 1440 * 680 but if it is different it should prevent you from uploading your file. I will see if it works later today.

PICTURES would have to be capitals in an ISO format (so the rest lowercase is crap)... The best file size dimensions seems to be 480x234 but 1440x680 ratio is close so its probably just resizing. Zrz11386
I've been having the exact same problem, tried it on a DVD and CD and hasnt worked either time, its been ridiculous and I havent been able to fix it, and I know im doing everything right on the computer end, since my girlfriend is a computer science student at UMD. TJB30I
I tried everything the tech guy said and it still does not work. He was full of it. This is totally BS. I am am IT professional and still can't get this to work. Attached is a print screen of the file structure of the CD-R that I am using. I have also tried all CAPS, small caps, capital P etc as the directory name and it still comes back with the "Can't find /Pictures" when you try to import from this or any CD. My installer put one in his own car and he has done dozens of installs and can't get it to work on any of the installs. This is beginning to sound like a hardward problem. If there is something I have missed on the directory structure let me know. Other stuff I have tried: - Putting the data fillers in the root directory - Using different CD's, i.e. CD-R and a CR-RW - Using different files as data fillers Help
VBLUE42
Not to start a MAC vs. PC debate but I use a MAC and have had no problems what so ever. I use no filler data and my folder is titled PICTURES. Worked the first time for me.
TJB30I
Latest update. Tried customer service again. This guy went straight to the question whether I was burning the image files using Windows. My answer was "Yes". He said this will only work if you are creating the disk image using a 3rd party software such as Roxio or Nero. Hopefully this will work. Not sure why using Windows does not achieve the same result. TJB30I
Burned the Pictures image with Nero and it worked. Sounds like all you have to do is make sure you don't burn background images using Windows.
VBLUE42
Its kind of funny but I knew WINDOWS was the problem in one way or another.
