spoogy
Hey guys, I'm a fellow "Newbie" D3 owner and tomorrow I am going to attempt to install it in my 02 explorer. I want to retain my steering wheel controls but when I was buying the unit I was told that I would not need an adapter for the controls to work and that it would be a simply "plug and operate" situation. Is this true or would I need this PAC-SWI-PS that I've seen everyone using?? Secondly if anyone has any info as to where the VSS wire for my truck is located if it has any?? Much thanks!! HiFiSi
Yeah, you'll need the adapter for the steering wheel controls to work.
AaronC
I have the same question about a different SUV. I just got my wife an '03 Lincoln Aviator and it too has steering controls. Is the adapter previously discussed the same adapter I would need in order to maintain the steering wheel controls?
MisFit
yes, you both need the pac swi-ps. and the vss is grey/black in the radio harness on both vehicles

MisFit
Speed Sense brown ABS module, pin 21 The ABS module is in the driver side rear corner of the engine compartment. On the V8 models, the VSS wire is also orange at the ECM, gray plug, pin 45. The ECM (Engine Control Module) is behind the driver side headlight, in the air cleaner assembly
BuffaloSS
Is the appropriate wire in the Pioneer unit going to be long enough to reach either of those? I don't have the HU from crutch yet, so I;m just trying to prepare myself for the install.
MisFit
it might. its pretty long. if not, just extend it
BuffaloSS
Thanks for the replies. Got the package today and need to start hunting these locations down. I'm familiar with the ECM, as I had to move it around when I installed the K&N INtake. I'll just have to look for the ABS module. Again, thanks for your help.
BuffaloSS
Just wanted to update my scenario. The inclusion of the GMOS chime/onstar module eliminated the need to find these wires. It does it for you. A big thumbsup to Axxess for this product.
