did they say anything about just the firmware update without the maps?

Yeah, it's not going to happen.

now that sucks, guess i'll have to wait til someone can hack it then,

i remember having to put a serial number when getting my msn trial. it then uses secret gps satellites to confirm authentication. its probably done the same way

Huh?!

Guys, the 3.0 Map/Firmware Update has a security code that is linked to the serial number of your unit. There will be no group buys or downloads.

Pioneer is going to have an introductory special where the price will be around $70 soon.

No group buy, unfortunately. And yeah, thats what it is, a bunch of people put in the money to buy one copy.

Well I hope it's available for download as well as SD card. I hate waiting for ANYTHING. :D

No, it's SD only.

Yeah, it's not going to happen.

It's nice to know that I have to pay more for bugs that Pioneer should have fixed prior to shipment. I paid $900 for my F90BT when it came out and its everything but "Premier" equipment.

On a side note... The iPod preouts have gone to shit and the guy at Al-Eds told me he found this issue before after I described what happens. He said I would have to send it in to Pioneer for a replacement. I wonder if I should wait to see if the replacement will come with 3.0 or not.

i don't think that those guys know what they're talking about as JASON himself was able to find this out when he was at the roadshow

Posted Jun 17, 2009 · 22:28 UTC#112

I saw what jason had posted also, It makes you wander what the heck is going on with pioneer or atleast their customer service

Posted Jun 17, 2009 · 22:47 UTC#113

so this thing is going to do what with a serial number?

it looks like pioneer is going to sell these at brick and mortar stores only. you cant tell me these guys(best buy and such) are going to be doing anything to the SD card to make it only work with your serial number.

Also my 700bt doesnt dial out or anything so there is no way pioneer is going to know if i bought the firmware or used someone elses. its not going to be like verifying my copy of windows.

i predict whatever security they build in gets hacked and uploaded to the web pretty quick.

or you can just buy it off ebay for $10.

not that i condone any of this... but paying for firmware upgrades/bug fixes is lame

it is lame, and also stupid

Posted Jun 17, 2009 · 22:53 UTC#115

Has anyone actually got their hands on this update. I search and it only shows I can buy it as bestbuy. I'll swing by tomorrow but i doubt they will have it.

Posted Jun 17, 2009 · 23:07 UTC#116

Misinformation at it's best...3.0 is a map and firmware update! No one is going to have it for at least a few more weeks.

There will be a page on Pioneer's website. You will give it your info and serial number, and it generates an activation code for YOUR unit. Also, your not paying for bug fixes, your paying for the 2009 map licensing fee.

Not seeing anything?

at $70 im in, luckily i was a late f90bt adopter and got it pretty cheap. i might wait for some real world reviews first though

Posted Jun 17, 2009 · 23:41 UTC#124

At $70 bucks I am in, but I am not ready for anymore disappointment with Pioneer, after my D3 and now the F700BT, I am ready to try something different, they are 90% there, but it seems they dont like to finish their products before they sell them. avic411 has helped a lot but really they are selling unfinished products, and now we have to pay for bugfixes, I know the maps are included, but I just need the bug fixes. at 130$ I think I will just save my money and buy something else.

Posted Jun 18, 2009 · 00:07 UTC#125

Now that we know we have to buy this, where are we supposed to get it? It does not seem like Pioneer has it available directly through them so are we going to have to get it via dealer networks? I think someone needs to get a hold of this and find out what kind or room we have with modding and what exactly has gotten better. It would suck if testmode, ie mods, are no more with 3.0
