1.
ouch! I feel for you! Did they get the brain too or just the HU? I'm in Tdot too, scary stuff. Got a car alarm?

The car only had the factory alarm at that time. It now has a couple of surprizes installed.
  2. If the mic plug is in the right hole then the icon should be there even if the mic doesn't work. Try an earpiece with that same size plug. Look here: http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php? ... highlight=
  3.
hey guys i have a probleme with a d1 screen.. the calibration is off and i cant seem to find how to fix it???
I don't see this covered in the D1 manual but you can look on page 178 of the Z1 manual which you can download here. 4. Actually quite easy to tell that it's a scam. Read the Feedbacks!! All are for items BOUGHT on Aug 9, 2006.... HELLOOOO, that's today!! The other things to watch for: When someone sells multiple Avics, how come there are no Avics in the feedbacks? Then look at member's location: Hong Kong or China. Item's loacation: Sweden or China etc. Shipping Cost: EU 45.- Available to (and here is the clue) IRELAND only. Will ship to Worldwide. Bet ya this  guy is in Ireland!!! And then notice that the same picture and advertisement appears under d
  5.
This post kind of died. I'm interested in faking something. I liked the ABS slab with post-it notes. Where can I buy plain old ABS slabs like that?
You can get the Abs from any car audio installer. Best Buy's installers have it too.
  6. In the dash! But check the many recent threads on the subject (Search).
  7. My biggest disappointment with the Pioneer units, coming from an OEM navi, is the lack of a good antireflection coating. The screen is great on heavy overcast days and at night but in sunny conditions the screen totally washes out. Put someone with a white shirt on the passenger seat and your screen becomes white. The screen tilting helps a bit but if you have a light colored interior then you have no place to tilt to. My OEM Blaupunkt navis had good polarized coatings but I don't know about Alpine. The other gripe that I have is the total lack of built in security. The hard drive can store
  8.
Could someone tell us how this camera is installed? It looks like you just remove all of the rings but one, drill a hole the size of the thread diameter, slip it through the hole, then screw on a second ring?
That's just about correct. You have several rings with cams that can be turned in order to lign up the camera precisely.
  9. I've had 4 different navis over the last couple of years in my Passat. All with the antenna under the dash and on top of a metal beam which most cars have in that area. On my Z1 I can see that I receive ALL 9 Satellites (maximum displayed) which simply means it works as good as putting it on the roof. Just make sure it is on a metal base and that there is no metal between the antenna and the sat. Enjoy the Eclipse speakers!!
  10.
It was alittle tight to install in my Grand Prix and I had to bore out my keyhole to make it fit. .
Just curious, do you mean you replace the keylock with this camera leaving you with only the remote for opening the trunk?
  11. Funny thing is that this question has been asked before and noone ever recommends a specific camera other than the Pioneer - which is overpriced. Get one from ebay under $100 but make sure the viewing angle is 90 deg. or more and the light sensitivity is below lux2. Check the size for mounting locations. Make sure that it's a reverse camera (showing a reverse image as you see in your mirror). Consider IR illumination for night viewing. Here is one that looks good in the spec's: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=006&item=160013815588&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
  12.
guys guys guys..... my antenna is mounted INSIDE my dash and i have perfect and accurate navigation..... you guys dont need to be mounting it on your roof. you cant even see my antenna...unit works perfect!
I agree!! I too have my antenna under the dash (Now with my 4th navi) and checking the sat's reception screen tells me that I get all of them.... which is more than you need. And I'm in the north - Canada. Changing the length of the antenna cable will do more harm to your reception than you will gain from mounting back there. (Cable is m
  13.
.... As for flashing the lights. When you see the "Starting Pioneer Navigation" text screen, what ever the state of the lights are when you first see that screen has to change while you see that screen or just into when you see the pioneer boot logo. If the lights are on when you see that screen they need to turn off, if they are off they need to turn on. It only needs to see that one transition. Either way works.
That's the best wording I've seen yet and I've just learned something new. :D
  14.
And the title of this post will have people emailing me for months about new unit problems or thinking their install error was due to a new Z1 or something. So thanks for that. If it's true, I'm all for everyone knowing about any problems, if it turns out to be installer error or a random failed circuit then the title of this post was not very nice.
Why not ask Jason to edit the title? I'm sure that he'd be happy to prevent any harm that it might do.
  15. Don't have a Ford but can tell you that most vehicles have a metal beam somewhere under the dash going across. Placing the antenna on that beam, preferably in the center, while making sure that there is nothing but plastic and glass above it, will give you top performance. The antenna holds down with it's own magnet in that position. :)
  16.
........ Turn the car on, wait till you see "starting pioneer navigation" and when you do, turn the lights on, wait 3-4 seconds, and then you can leave them on or turn them off. That's all there is to it........
Hey, I think you missed the part about turning OFF the lights after that 3-4 seconds. For me it works like this: Turn on the car/Turn on the lights/then turn OFF the lights just as the Pioneer logo appears or half a second before that once you get the nag of it. Obviously, Ducatiboy's thingy is the better way to go.

Because i bought this system from my cousin, and he didnt have it. What can ya do?
These things have only been out for a couple of month's. Why would your Cousin sell it and not have a manual?
The N1 has been out for a couple years now. The N3 has only been out a couple months. Creef412
Sorry, my mistake. Still doesn't explain though why your cousin doesn't have a manual or the antenna that comes with them. Forgive me but there is a guy out there with my Avic D1. He doesn't have the antenna
I must have pressed a button and not known. But when i go to navigation mode on the N1 the map is like a map of New York and surrounding states rather than the usaul street by street. Anyone know how I can switch it back to the other view? I dont have the manual. Any help would be appreciated!
Hmmmm, why don't you have a manual?
  20. Thanks, don't thing I'll do that while the unit is under warranty. With the right start-up screen, it would sure make it useless for anyone stealing it though. I'd love a picture of my car and a caption that says: This Pioneer belongs to XXXX XXXXX (my license plate #).
  21. Has anyone figured out how to replace the Z1 start-up screen? Any programmers out there who are able to find it in the version upgrade? :?:

    D1 vs Z1 ?

Having installed the Z1 now I see that the glare protection on this screen is no better than on the D1. Too bad that Pioneer still hasn't figured out how to produce a better one.
  23. I was unhappy that the Z1 came without a sleeve and tried to get one quickly without luck. Having installed the D1 with a sleeve I couldn't think of any other way to mount the navi into my VW passat. Well I'm glad I didn't find a sleeve because it turned out I found a better and more secure way to install the Z1 and it took less than an hour to do the mechanical part of the install and without the sleeve there is also better air circulation.
  24.
Well tell us what you plugged in there which works, I'm sure someone here with bluetooth is dying to try another mic.
Just a $5 no-name earpiece. I was not able to tell a difference between this and the Pioneer mic. Both work the same close up and at arm length, eh.
  25.
Wow, that stinks, I would have never thought to check the wire. It's pretty cool that your headset works as a mic, if you have the bluetooth setup have your called listen for an echo. Most of us think the stock mic kind of sucks. If you have a decent working substitute, that might be something some of us would like to try.
Don't have the bluetooth yet but can confirm that other mics will work just fine with 'voice command'.
