  1. It could be an issue of grounding your RCA cables. And when you pushed the unit back in, they touched some metal part and grounded out, eliminating the ground loop, and in turn eliminating the noise. Either that, or the end(s) of your RCA cables are going bad and causing a loose connection. Happened to me once. The connector at the end of one of my RCA cables was coming apart and it caused a hellish whining noise. I replaced the cable and it sounded fine.
  2. Yes, it works. That's the whole reason we're discussing buying the old refurbished ipods instead of the new ones.
  3. Yes. None of the new apple ipods will play video on the D3, which includes the nano, classic, touch, and the iphone.
  4. Well look at the seller's feedback. The ones who have a ton of feedback, mostly positive are a better choice. The ones with little to no feedback or a lot of negative feedback you might want to steer clear from.
  5. Yeah. Sorry to say it, but that sounds like there's something wrong with the unit. You're most likely going to have to get it replaced... I think there's a (1 year?) warranty from Pioneer.
  6. Any ipod before the new 6th gen will work flawlessly with the D3. Video playback works, track info updates, etc. It's just the brand new ones that just came out that have the problems. And if you're looking to buy one of the older models at a reasonable price, your best bet is probably going to be ebay. Just... be careful who you're buying from.
  7. Is it just the screen going blank, or the unit actually turning off and on? If it's the first, it sounds like the unit has an internal problem, possibly. If it's the 2nd one, maybe there's a loose power connection. Or the harness isn't plugged into the unit all the way. Check all your connections and make sure they're solid.

    D3 or Z2?

The hard drive music storage in the Z2 isn't really all that great, either. You can only put music on it by inserting an audio CD in the unit and ripping it straight to the hard drive (meaning you have to own the actual CD). You can't just put in a disk or USB device with a bunch of mp3's on it and transfer the files over, which is kind of a pain in the ass. For the $1200 you save by going with the D3, you can pay out $250 or so for an ipod and the cable and have something far superior to the Z2's music storage capabilities, with a lot more storage space for far less money. That way, you can j
  9. Exactly. When in doubt, go with what you know works.
  10. SEARCH THE SITE. There's at least 4 or 5 active topics on this.
  11. Honestly, you shouldn't even bother trying a new inverter. The PS2 car adapter is where it's at. It takes up a lot less space, it's cheaper, and it doesn't have to convert DC to AC and back again. I'm sure that would eliminate the noise as well.
  12. Why the hell would anyone put a memo on that atrocity of a song???
  13. Here's a few. They are all the cigarrette lighter type, but all you would have to do is pull the wires out of the cigarette lighter adapter if you wanted to hardwire it. It's much more efficient than converting your car's DC current to AC with the inverter and then back to DC with the PS2's power supply. http://www.ciao.co.uk/Joytech_In_Car_Power_Adapter_12V_for_Slimline_PS2_Console__6554622 http://www.consoleshop.com/product.php?cat=0&page=1&productid=16280 http://www.modchip.com/ps2/caradapterorder.php http://store.richspsxparts.com/slps2carad.html http://www.walmart.com/cata
  14. Well... hmmm. If it's got a solid power supply and ground, and it causes interference in the D3 when it's turned on... I can't think of anything but possibly the inverter is bad. Try buying a new one and hook it up and see if the it also causes the noise. Buy it from somewhere you can return it, so if it doesn't fix it, you can return it.
  15. I second that. power to the inverter directly from battery, and ground the inverter to the chassis.
  16. Check to make sure you power wires are hooked up correctly. The +Battery wire should be connected to a constant power source, not a switched one. I also recall someone else having the same problem in his car. Try searching some of the other topics for it.
  17. If something like that were to be implemented by Pioneer, it would probably not be seen until the next generation unit.
  18. If you're going to do that why wouldn't you just tear out the d3 all together, get a lilliput touch screen and set up a carputer? I had a similar setup in my last car (Mazda 3) but it was a pain in the ass overall and I couldn't really get a good fit in my new car (Altima Coupe). However, if I was planning on running a mac mini anyway there's no way I wouldn't want control of the pc through the touchscreen. That's a hell of a lot cheaper, too.
  19. Nope. There's really no way around that. It's just how the unit works. The closest thing you could do is make the top tier of folders artist folders. That way you can scroll through the list of artists while a song is still playing and only have to switch tracks when you enter that artist's folder.
  20. I think what you mean to say is the power is cut from all the accessories to allow full power to go to the starter? The easiest way around it would be like I said before. Hardwire both power wires from the radio to the battery and install a remote switch on the radio's ACC wire.
  21. http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9599&highlight= Go to the last post (this is assuming you are using the D3) Next time a little more info would be nice.

    New ipod and D3

It will work for audio, charging, etc, but since it doesn't have that stupid little authentication chip in it, the video output will be disabled.

    New ipod and D3

So how would you go about connecting the apple dock to the pioneer cable?
