  1. The thing about Google and Apple is that they collect info about where you go, and I'm sure they use it to make money somehow. THe unit in your car doesn't send that kind of info. If it could I"m sure those maps would become free. I'm not sure about CarPlay, but Android Auto maps are VERY poor quality in comparison to the 8100 built in maps. I only seem to use the AA maps because I can talk to my phone to get them. I can't talk to the 8100 for navigation. This was something I had with the Kenwood 990HD I used to have. It wasn't great, but something is better than nothing.
  2. The way that the maps are created is still technology... it still takes time to code them properly, thus a cost for the company. It's not like they just make themselves. This is why they charge... I of course wish I could get the updates for more than 'once', I'm at 2015 Q2, Q3 can't be much more in my area... but someone that lives in an area that is developing it might be nice to have the latest.
  3. Me too, I use the internal maps, and only the Android Auto because it can do the voice lookup.
  4. I think it's how it buffers the information.... Try is with just 2 or 3 videos on the card, PITA I know, but just for testing I have a kinda similar issue, my latest iPod Touch will skip about 1/2 second of the song, and during the song it will skip ahead that same time... so if the song is just the word BANG it starts off as BANG, you only hear ANG , then later it will be BNG the other issue is that 3 times so far, as I'm driving, the sound will get VERY distorted, static.... the first couple times, I just turned off the car and back on again, and it was fine The 3rd time I tes
  5. As a guess, try it with a different USB stick.... I've read that the units can be picky.... Also make sure that NOTHING else is on there. If you did it with a Mac, there are hidden files that start with a period like .somefile You'd have to either do it on a PC, or use the terminal to remove them.
  6. Nope... Carplay (Android Auto) is better
  7. But you have to tell the site what unit you are updating.... when I first got my 4100 (with the U260) , I told it that.... then I got my 8100, I had to tell it that I was updating that... Ya might want to go back and just make sure....
  8. I'm sure that you did this, but make sure you picked the 8000 and not the 8100, or 8200, or even one of the others... IF you did everything right, then I'd get ahold of them.... maybe their website did something wrong.
  9. could be the button on the wheel that is used for switching sources is stuck ..... if not then it's the module that does that.... might need resetting
  10. It is probably not supported, many phones are not call Pioneer to check, they don't post which ones are or are not
  11. Everyone has to realize that when they buy anything that is based on technology that it will be outdated very soon.... updates will happen, but only when the manufacture feels it's ready. And if they use someone else's technology they are not in control of updates for that. We can all wish that we get free anything, but that does not make sense for a company. They need to make money, even the map makers need to make money or nothing would get updated or even made. If you bought something and tomorrow it gets replaced, then you didn't do you due diligence to see if it's at the end of
  12. go to www.naviextras.com and sign up, and then follow the instructions. Being that you have the 8000, the maps will not be free.
  13. For different reasons I turned it back in and got the 8100, love this unit....
  14. I"m not sure about the new NEX, but USB1 is Apple, USB2 is Android could be the wire that you used is not shielded very well... again hard to tell without looking at it in person. is the Amp factory or 3rd party?
  15. As far as radio reception, I'll assume you mean AM/FM HD radio, not Sat Radio. did you have to adapt the am/fm antenna in any way, or did it just plug directly in.... if it didn't maybe it's the converter... otherwise it's hard to say... the filter should help, maybe better grounding will help too. What smart phone and USB1 or USB2? Android Auto takes over everything, you get that or the built in. I seem to remember that the new NEX can auto detect iphone or Android.... it might be trying to do that. See if there is anything on the phone asking permission to do something...
  16. Not sure, you'll have to ask NAviExtras, or Pioneer, I got mine about 2 months ago and was able to get to 2015 q2.
  17. if you are not getting any sound with the radio, then I'd guess it doesn't have anything to do with the other connections. I'm betting on loose or incorrect wireing, or defective unit.
  18. Sounds like something is pressing up against the screen, or the bezel is being pressed on to make it think the screen is being pressed.... Being that it's a 4100, remove the front screen and then put it back.... if it was difficult to do then there is your answer... it also might re-seat the connections....
  19. Call them anyway! Can't hurt. If you have the serial they might be able to see if it's still under warranty.
  20. If you havn't already, see if you can do the most recent update. Otherwise , it's time to call Pioneer
  21. It is supposed to adjust the volume of the voice, and it's found when you press the volume buttons when in the maps. it's better than the Volvo I drove a few months ago (rental), it said 'Please turn....' I laughed the first time I heard it say Please!
  22. run the extension to the glovebox....
  23. Nah, just format on the PC as Fat32 with nothing else on it.
  24. I used a stick that was about 8gigs, and followed this.... https://pioneer.naviextras.com/shop/portal/p2howto-guide?guide=Toolbox&topic=FirstSteps Basicly you use the HU to put folders/files on the stick... then plug it into the computer for the Navi software to download the needed files on to the stick. once you've done that, then you put it back in the HU, and tell it to update (I think it sees it right away, I forgot now... ) THis whole process will take about 3 hours depending on how fast your download is.

    Spotify

Ok, tested my Nexus 6 actually loads the Android Auto faster, not sure why, but that being said Spotify shows up IT also shows up with my V10 ... So once you get the AA screen, and click on the Headphones, you're given the options for what you want to listen to. (Sometimes Google Music will load automatically, so just press on the Headphones again and you'll see the options) I had to scroll down on both to get to it.
