  1. ...except that it has the exact same incompatibilities that the OP is asking about. You'll need to get the 5G iPod. It charges & plays video. However, it doesn't support widescreen video output (the widescreen option in the iPod menu just letterboxes a 4:3 output on the 5G). So you have to letterbox on the iPod then select Wide Mode "Zoom" on the D3 to get a widescreen video to fill the screen without stretching. It looks slightly blocky but it's passable.
  2. I ended up returning this unit and went back to my D3. It's just too unresponsive & buggy. The startup time is terrible. TTS would sometimes read "underscore" and punctuation marks. Menus take a couple touches to register sometimes. Voice control only activates when it wants to. Weird menu system with less options and customization than the two year old D3. etc etc etc.
  3. I just want to add that I did the firmware update using a PC and following the instructions to the letter. After resetting by using the reset button, you need to turn off the car, insert the dummy SD card and turn it back on. It's working fine.
  4. I also just bought this. Can't wait for it to come!
  5. There really is no way to do this, and it was a horrific oversight on their part.
  6. Not sure. If you're using it on AT&T or T-Mobile EDGE service it's most likely interference from the cell network. It works fine with Pandora and my iPhone but that's over 3G, which doesn't have that problem.
  7. Kensington 4-in-1 Car Charger for iPod http://store.apple.com/us/product/TK596LL/A So you still have to plug this into the cigarette lighter to get it to charge? Or does it convert the voltage from the head unit to charge it?
  8. There is no "special cable" if you only want audio through the front AUX input. Any 1/8" to 1/8" male to male cable will work fine. Make sure AV2 is enabled in the D3 settings and you can select the source. Then, make sure the volume on your MP3 player is turned all the way up.
  9. The newest iPod touch, iPod nano, and iPhone 3G do not charge via the cable to the D3. The cable is firewire-only, and the new iPods and iPhone only charge via USB.
  10. You have full control of the iPod's music functions. You have to select videos on the iPod itself. I would say the only major problem of the D3 is that when you do a POI search, the results are not sorted by distance to your current location. So for example, if I searched for "McDonalds," it will bring up results that are thousands of miles away instead of ones that are nearby.
  11. This happens to me now too. Maybe once a month, when I start the car the screen will either be all black, or stay on one screen, but still play the radio. I can cycle through modes by pressing the volume knob in, but the screen does not change and there are no beeps. I then have to shut the car off, wait 30 seconds or so, start it back up, and the splash screen is blank, and all the other backgrounds reset to original. Very frustrating.
  12. Having 3G makes listening to Internet radio in the car great.
  13. Looks like there's another option. I think this just came out. http://www.griffintechnology.com/produc ... -converter Maybe this one will work!
  14. People in the other thread said that this adapter does not work with the D3.
