  1. I'm looking at upgrading my phone to the new Sprint EVO. Has anyone tried pairing one with an F series yet? If so let us know if you had any troubles.
  2. I canceled mine a long time ago because it never really worked well. I just realized that it is now working! I'd wait before renewing to see if it actually stops working.
  3. Sometimes MSN Direct detects traffic ahead and recalculates the route, quite often with the same route found.
  4. MSN Direct sucks and is not worth the money for me. I just got off the phone and canceled my service. I live in Central NJ and rarely receive a signal. When I do the information is mostly useless. The weather will simply give the current conditions (i.e. raining) for a location 80 miles away (typically Atlantic City). I can get better weather sticking my head out the window. The gas station price info is handy, when its working. I was in Manhattan a few weeks ago and had no signal. Either something is wrong with my system or their coverage just sucks.
  5. Could it just be that you at some point touched your screen. This freezes the display and places a red marker at the place you touched. This is normal behavior, its not random. The map switches to 2D when you have a set distance to the next turn. It will switch back to 3D when you reach the set distance. (This is settable in the gps settings, I think the default is 2 miles). I had thought this was a bug as well until I understood why it was switching. This happens with my system as well. It got better with 2.0, but still occasionally happens. Having the hack where you can can
  6. Your fingernails need trimming?
  7. The 'dot' is your actual location, the arrow is automatically 'snapped' to follow the road. The only time I see this is is when the road has been relocated due to construction. The map thinks the road is somewhere else. You can turn off the snap to road feature if you want. See http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20445 How is your gps signal strength?

    No Female Voice

Have you hacked your software? Have you upgraded the software and the voices? If so did you follow the correct procedure to upgrade the voices? See Pioneer update guide
  9. That has been proposed several times already. It won't work with most cars. The starter on almost all cars pulls the battery voltage down low enough that a reboot will happen when you start the car. I ran a temporary line directly to the battery and that is what happened to mine. You could try a second battery and and a battery isolator, but the cost isn't worth it. The best solution so far is a remote starter.
  10. Or you can use gimp. Gimp is free and has most of the photo editing functions you could ever use. Download at http://www.gimp.org/ There are lots of great open source products out there that are free. Another great free software suite is Open Office. I only consider stealing software and robbing banks as a last resort when I'm really desperate.
  11. I just installed your latest scripts. So far I like it, although it could use some cosmetic fixes. I didn't quite understand the detour screen. I figured out that it presents saved searches, but the text that tells you to select distances for something was not readable. By your above statement are you saying that all files that were not part of your scripts.zip file can be deleted (i.e. the scripts.zip could be renamed data.zip and could completely replace the data.zip file?). I just used your scripts to update a copy of my data.zip. I see what you mean by the duplicate files, there are qu
  12. F-series model: 900BT Phone make/model: Samsung M1 Ease of connection: very easy Phone book transfer: easy, unit can pull addresses from my phone, I don't think I can send from phone though Sound quality: very good Comments: I really wish we could edit the phone book, or even just delete contacts. I had trouble figuring out how to upload the phone book. But I don't even recall what I was doing wrong. Its seems simple now. I haven't played around with voice dialing yet, but I have low expectations.

    not dead on

The accuracy is mostly dependent upon the GPS signal you are receiving. What accuracy level does your gps status screen show (see pages 123-124 or your manual)? You may need to reconsider the placement of your gps antenna.

If you can't follow simple directions perhaps you shouldn't do the mod. What state do you live/drive in? If you are anywhere near NJ then please don't do the mod, the roads here are bad enough. The mod is only for people smart enough to drive and chew gum at the same time.
  15. You don't want to do the software mod. It requires you to hack into the software for the unit, you would risk damaging your unit and it would become useless. You should only do the software mod if you are 100% comfortable with your skill level and the directions given. As has been said before, follow the directions and pictures at http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17013. The directions and pictures are very good. No one can help you unless you are more specific with your problem.
  16. Its different for different cars. I'd recommend experimenting with different locations before mounting permanently. When I put mine on my steering wheel column it picked up too much background noise, people complained that they couldn't hear me at all. I ran the wire inside molding in the driver's side front door column and then out to my sun visor. It works ok, but my vehicle is a bit noisy on the road. I don't have an element though!
  17. I just bought a 16GB A-Data card. Its the class 6 "turbo" version. Had problem at first because all of my readers are too old and don't support HC so I couldn't write to it. I have a new reader being shipped to me. I finally had a brain fart and plugged it into my camera, and then plugged my camera into my computer. The camera allows me to read/write to it. First I reformatted it (FAT32), I don't know if this was necessary. I transferred over about half my music collection so far (the card is about half full). It was getting to late to copy over the whole thing. It works perfectly! (o
  18. Its a two step process. First you need to get the cursor to the right area. Press Menu, Destinations, Address. Enter the city name and select Citywide. This will display the city with the cursor at the city. Once you have the cursor at the city press menu again. Press Destinations then POI. Now search around the cursor. I tried it this morning and it does work. (I'm not at my unit now, so I may be missing steps!).
  19. I'm not in Louisville (NJ)), but it took a few days before I got any data. Now it gets the data and its accurate. However when I go to look at it the distances are always from somewhere that I used to be hours ago. Based on my experiences so far, MSN Direct will not be renewed after the 9 months. The $9.95 for the additional 6 months MIGHT be worth it, but there is no way I'm going to renew at $50/year based on how useless it is so far. Perhaps during my "trial" period they will upgrade the system and it will become useful?
  20. I bought my 900BT from one of those Brooklyn store fronts (powersellernyc). I was very worried, but they had a really great price. I live close enough to Brooklyn that I figured that if I had any problems with the sale I would show up in person and complain. The unit showed up just two days later. All packaging looked great. I've installed it and haven't had any regrets or problems. You can't blame the seller that Pioneer has such a ridiculous warranty policy. Try one of their authorized resellers first. Then compare the savings you'll get elsewhere and ask yourself if the savings
  21. I had it mounted to my steering wheel column. It was totally unusable. When making phone calls people couldn't here me at all. I've now moved it to my sun visor and its much better. Its somewhat noisy still, but I have very noisy truck tires on my Highlander.
  22. I'm wondering the same thing. I know many have gotten large SD cards to work. What brands? What speed class? Has anyone determine the difference in boot up time with a card plugged in versus without? (and perhaps with/without the scan turned on?) Would a USB stick be any better? Newegg has a 16GB A-Data for only $38.99. Unless someone warns me away I'm going to buy it and give it a try. The 32 GB SD cards are still a bit too pricey for now.
  23. I've downloaded Stephanies files and have started to play around. Why can't I edit/view/open so many of the bmps? For example I can't open all the bmp's in DATA.zip/gfx I've tried gimp and windows picture/fax viewer. Gimp says 'XXX.bmp is not a valid BMP file' I am able to open some of the bmp's just not all of them. I am extracting them to my desktop and then trying them. I'm going to try to install the latest version of gimp.
  24. I just added an amp to my 900. I do have lots of hiss when I set the amplifier gain where I would like it. The 900 has the lower voltage preout, so you should have less hiss than with my setup.
  25. This past weekend I installed a 900 into my Toyota Highlander. I only have minor gripes about it. - long boot up time - 2d map behavior Other than this it works great. I haven't tried an I-pod (nor probably will I), rear view camera, satellite radio/hd radio at this point in time. I want to play around with large USB drives next.
