  1. Solved artist list issue. The X940 is not compatible with both the Album Artist and Albumartist (aka Band) tags. I was using both and this was formerly not an issue with either my F700 or iPod Classic. However it breaks the alpha scrolling list on the X940 (and maybe other X-series units). I deleted the Albumartist tag, resynced, and scrolling problem is solved. From a technical perspective it is not the use of 3rd party programs that causes issues directly, it's that 3rd party programs allow tagging variances outside Apple's spec. It's important to realize that hardware manufacturers and
  2. Having similar problem, but with artist list on my X940. Songs work fine. I use Foobar to sync, mp3Tag for tagging. I'm guessing it is related to these third party programs, although my F700 worked perfectly with my iPod Classic. Will investigate further and report back.
  3. Thanks VBlue. Silly question. You could have said RTFM page 143. Are you serious about next firmware? The next unit? I obviously haven't been keeping up with new units in the last few years. Has that been the normal release schedule? New firmware for previous (compatible) units when the new unit is released?
  4. I probably know the answer but do XM icons automatically download on these units? I'm getting the generic satellite icon on a number of stations that, I think, have been on air since well before the X940 was released. Ozzy's Boneyard for instance. Maybe auto download isn't possible on the X940 OS; however, I owned a Pioneer Inno several years ago that updated icons automatically. And those units were first released in 2006. Assuming it isn't possible I assume we'll have to wait for the next firmware update to get new icons.
  5. Roadking, no doubt the engineering staff at Pioneer makes some interesting choices. Another one--besides the HD presets that bugs us all--is the lack of scrolling titles in all source inputs. I don't understand why it's not available for all sources when some have scrolling (HD radio for one). XM is limited to about 16 characters for each title line and that's it. At least Pioneer could be consistent. These are the kind of little bugs that could be so easily overcome. But then what would we have to talk about on avic411 Regarding knob replacement see this thread in the hacks/mods fo
  6. Upgrade in my 2007 Mustang went extremely smooth. Considered other brands but returned to Pioneer since I already have the XM and HD boxes installed. (And who wants to give up avic411?) In fairness I looked at a JVC unit in Best Buy and did not like their busy, almost garish, home screen. I much prefer Pioneer's minimalist approach in that regard. Although I've only played with the X940 for a few hours I'm generally pleased. Certainly the new functionality is very nice (DVD, streaming bluetooth, app mode) and the unit is much more responsive. The AV interface takes some getting used to,
  7. Sent paypal a few days ago for X940 black. Boy the little stock knob blows! Thanks for all you do. I enjoyed the billet knob on my F700 and I know I'll be pleased with this one.
  8. Retell, good to hear from you. FX3.1 is still a valuable tool and an easy way to restore a HU to near factory. Personally I was a little tired of the theme I was using and wanted to start over on my F700. I downloaded from the link on post #661 so a new torrent seed isn't necessary right now. Thanks RADRaze2KX for making it available. I added a few basic updates to FX3.1 to bring it into 2011: - Ulmer's nav mods (revised Mavrickster mod's). This adds a little more needed functionality to the original nav interface, such as a nav mute button, without wholesale changes like Diaftia
  9. I can confirm that the 2011 maps work with the FX3.1 image. Maps are in this thread http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/32294-updated-2011-maps/. Due to expanded size of the new map and POI files (about 300MB too large) you will need to make some choices before upgrading. I pared the maps down to the lower-48 plus about 1/2 the POI's to squeeze it onto my F700.
  10. I was able to squeeze all the US-lower 48 maps and 1/2 the POI's onto my F700. You will definitely have to make some map/POI choices. I can also confirm that the maps work with the FX3.1 firmware image with no other changes. I installed the image first, then the upgraded maps.
  11. One suggestion: While using an ipod the background behind the album art needs to be "plain". The CD icon behind the top left corner of the album art distracts from the art and makes the ipod screen too busy. Maybe something to look at if you upgrade. Otherwise I'm enjoying the theme. Thanks for the hard work.
  12. Also, as JrFaust and I discovered, don't load the NN746UC image file from http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=25465 unless you are completely out of options (in that case I'd probably let Pioneer service). It will change your device number and render a legal upgrade password invalid. I'm going to try and see if Pioneer will reset the password but I expect the run around. Most of my story trying to solve the blank screen can be found in this thread http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=23760
  13. After many hours trying to solve a black screen issue on my F700 I finally was successful installing 3.01. For anyone reading this don't make my mistake and use WinCE files from 2.0. It will kill the upgrade. I'm a slow learner and it took me 10-12 houres and a half dozen install attempts to figure out my mistake. Make sure an use the WinCE files for the type install you are doing. For a downgrade use WinCE from the 2.0 firmware, for a 3.0 upgrade use WinCE from the X910 firmware. Thanks to everyone for contributing to Avic411.
  14. One more update: I finally got 3.01 to load successfully. My mistake? Using WinCE files from 2.0, not 3.0. Trust me it kills the install. Make sure and use the correct WinCE files for the type install you are doing. For a 3.0 upgrade get the WinCE files from the X910 3.01 firmware on Pioneer's web site. Another word of advice: Don't reload the NN74UC image file unless you are out of all other options. It will apparently change your device number, rendering any legal upgrade password invalid. Not sure if Pioneer will reset my password to get me "legal" again but am going to try.
  15. A word from someone who made the mistake: Make sure and use the WinCE version for the type install you are doing. I was trying to do an upgrade to 3.01 using WinCE files from 2.06. 10-12 hours later I can say with certainty that it doesn't work!
  16. After many hours, a successful 3.01 install on my F700. Don't make my mistake and use WinCE files from 2.0. It will kill the upgrade.
  17. Another post consolidating the various file links. All links are functional as of today. WinCE - Download the X910BT 3.0101 firmware directly from Pioneer. The WinCE files are in the PLT folder. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/ ... 10BT?tab=F Another link http://ds1.downloadtech.net/cn1010/firm ... Update.zip Testmode 2.3 download/file.php?id=7376 My Flash Files See post #1 of this thread viewtopic.php?f=34&t=24888 Thanks to GeoGTO for hosting! Hope this saves a bit of searching for a few people.
  18. Tried the NN746UC reload to fix my F700 black screen. Reading the image went fine. However, testmode would only load for a few seconds before reboot. Required reloading the WinCE files from the service menu. Also, at least one user in another thread said that loading NN746UC will change your device number, rendering a legal 3.0 upgrade password unsuable in the future. I had the same experience. My device number DID change and my password is now invalid. I have to call Pioneer and try to get a password reset. Can this behavior be confirmed? If correct, users should be very cautio
  19. Read in another thread that reloading the NN746UC image will change the device number, rendering the password invalid. I did this as part of my effort to overcome the black screen problem. Details of the NN746UC reload can be found here viewtopic.php?f=33&t=25465. I'll post a comment in that thread to try and verify this behavior. Meanwhile, I guess my only recourse is to call Pioneer and see if they can help with password reset. I'd at least like to have a valid password in case I need it in the future.
  20. I am trying to reinstall a legal 3.0 after reformatting my F700 with 2.0 to solve a black screen / reboot prolem. I used the 2.0 version for F700 found on the turboss ftp site. However, the 3.0 upgrade now finds a new device number, apparently a result of the 2.0 reformat. Therefore, my upgrade password won't work and i'm stuck at firmware 2.1. What causes the regeneration of the device number? I assumed it was a hardware serial number that would not change but apparently it is software generated. As anyone else encountered this problem? Would the regeneration of the device num
  21. Looks great!! I was waiting on a "cool blue" theme to match my dash lights. A couple of questions: Does this work in 2.0 and 3.0? I just had to reflash my entire system because of the all-too-common Black Screen of Death. I'm now on 2.0 but intend to reinstall 3.0 once my F700 proves itself stable again. I'll lose the theme when I reinstall 3.0, correct? Not a big deal. I've never used a theme but from reading other posts, all I do with image.res is put it in the APL folder on My Flash. Backing up the original file of course. Good work. I'll let you know if any questions
  22. Shew.....what a process. Finally up and running again using 2.0. Here's my sad tale, briefly. Maybe it will help someone else. - F700 was running fine with legal 3.0 - Yesterday system black screened after splash screen - First tried a 3.0 reinstall from legal Pioneer SD cards, encountered multiple errors, still a black screen - Read multiple posts here on avic411, sad to see many others with similar problems - Decided to try the procedure outlined in this post viewtopic.php?f=33&t=27155 (thanks Redfire) - Opted to try the x910 version 3.01010 as found on ftp://www.turboss.com
  23. Finally located files in this thread. It's a hosted ftp site. Thanks to GeoGTO for providing. Thread link viewtopic.php?f=34&t=24888 Here are the login details ftp://www.turboss.com Username: avicuser Password: Avic411 (The username and password are case sensitive) 3.0 files are in the x900bt directory.
  24. abb1: Good point. I purchased the official 3.0 and have my device ID. Worked great for several months. However, I got the dreaded Black Screen of Death on my F700 today. Other than contacting Pioneer I guess my only option is to do a clean install of 3.0 and see if that works. Still looking for working links or torrent. Thanks
  25. Another B(lack) Screen of Death user. After 7-8 months of worry free use, including a clean, legal 3.0 upgrade months ago, my F700 BSOD'ed today. No warning, just started the car, got the splash screen, then the unit died. Tried multiple restarts and got the same result. When I got home I tried reinstalling the 3.0 update using my official 3.0 update SD cards but the unit throws off multiple errors during the re-update process. Guess I'll try the 4 finger salute reboot first then the 3.0 hack install. I've located the testmode and winCE files. Still need x910bt.zip. The itchybot lin
