  1. The XM tuner needs to be connected to "constant power". However I installed my 700 last Sunday, and my '03 GTI wouldn't start this morning...first electrical problem since I bought the car. I may change to "switched" power after replacing battery.
  2. http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-ADTVA133-Installation-AVH-P6800DVD-FH-P4200MP/dp/B000FE7Q5I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1236902187&sr=8-1 Fit my '03 GTI.
  3. FWIW I hear hiss switching from screen to screen (I believe its not isolated to switching between sources) with my 700. Its connected to the factory harness (ground as well, but will change ground to body later) of my 20th AE GTI's factory Monsoon amp/component speakers. I also have Pioneer 920 XM tuner, ground to body, but hiss is still there navigating the menus. I vaugely remember hearing it as well when I had it hooked up in my living room, to a small bookshelf speaker, and power inverter.
  4. Maybe it "could" work with a combination of "unzipped files on SD card", along with changing RAM allocation in the Control panel. My 700 changes screens noticably faster after setting RAM skewed more toward Programs, vs. Storage. That or we could toy with trying to overclock the processor.
  5. To change memory settings: - Boot into WindowsCE (well documented on this board) - Go to "Start" - Go to "Settings" - Open "Control Panel" - Open "System" - Under the "Memory" tab, set memory allocaton accordingly
  6. What OS are you running on the Q? My Q9h is running WM 6.1, and my 700 has 2.0 firmware...no BT issues.
  7. Try to find a "boot.ini", or resonable facsimilie, file in the OS. There may be a setting where you can change boot order from SD to USB.
  8. If you haven't already, try chaning the memory allocation so that more RAM is used for "programs" vs. "storage". I have RAM allocated ~ 90% for programs, ~10% for storage. My 700 shipped with the 2.0 firmware, with RAM allocated at ~ programs ~30%, storage ~70%. I've noticed about a 75% increase on button reation and screen transition times. Basically the unit is much more responsive switching between screens. Aside from switching to/navigating SD card, it takes a second or less to move between screens.
  9. Meh, I wasn't really concerned with that feature/issue...just trying to shed light fot the other poster. I've been too busy with other things like Rndis drivers for WinCE and getting internet working, and getting my phone's display onto the AVIC (come on Touch Pro 2!).
  10. FWIW, the feature is grayed-out, on my 700, following the hardwire bypass, along with the "Maverickster" mod. That and the setting to the immediate right of the Mute/Voice settings, the name of which escapes me right now. All other settings are adjustable, throughout the main settings menu. I think there is mention of a workaround in the "Maverickster's Mod" thread however. The unusually slow page loading over the past few days is making search a long process.
  11. I have an '03 GTI, and connected the Power lead for the AVIC, to the "brown/red-stripe" power lead from the ingition stalk (key sensor circuit) Pics are from this thread: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3134807 Brown/red-stripe wire is top most wire looped, and sticking out by itself from the wire bundle: Taken from the thread: While it's completely optional, it's still a good idea to grab a parking light wire so the D3's display will dim at night and not be so distracting and/or annoying. The Gray/Purple at the light switch is a suitable wire to supply power to

    Where to buy?

I bought my 700 from 6ave, via amazon for $365 (end of Feb), along with XM 920 tuner ($85). The (2) pieces shipped together in (1) "Pioneer 700" box...I figured the 700 would be in there, but not packaged together with the 920...like it was a factory package deal. I placed the order late Tuesday night, received no type of traking info from 6ave, received payment applied notification on Thursday, and UPS "attempted" delivery on Friday. I shouldn't have been playin' BF2 and I would have heard them at the door. Unit shipped with 2.0 firmware, and blue sticker, all sealed.
  13. I just got my 700 last week, and have been playing around with the OS...also trying to get my sling feed (from MotoQ) onto the 700. Video out from phone isn't going to work with the Moto, so I'll be picking up an HTC Pro Touch2 when it comes out. Current version has a usb-to-composite cable that just pushes out the "phone top" to a video monitor/TV. In the mean time, I noticed that the USB port can be changed to RNDIS, however I can not get it to recognize my phone when connected. I finally got the USB cable to at least charge my phone, by changing the usb port to "Mass Storage" within
  14. Do you have your illumination wire "from the AVIC" connected to anything now? If you are trying to have the AVIC dim its lights, connect it to the (+) lead for your headlight switch, vs. any instrument cluster "dimmer knob". The off/on nature of the headlight switch will dim the AVIC to a fixed level.
  15. Whether routing or not, if there is a generic map icon displayed, "Restaurant" for instance, is there any way to press the icon and have it display the detail info? Or is it possible to program a button/shortcut, where after highlighting the icon with the "cursor", pressing the button/shortcut brings up the info? Right now it seems like you have to drill down a bit and just do a mass search to find the closest POI to the cursor position. I'd just like to have at least the initial info which is displayed after running a search, like what comes up on the list, if not the stock info "spli
